Guest guest
The thing that I'm the very worst at, is figuring out what to add to a recipe if I think it needs a " kick " in flavor! Last night I made broccoli cheese soup but I was disappointed that the soup didn't live up to what I expected. I used: broccoli cheese onion potato milk veggie broth garlic powder salt Does anyone have any suggestions to kick up the flavor of the left overs? thanks Jane

Guest guest
White or multi-colored ground pepper, if you've got it, or just regular black pepper would be a good addition as well. Also, yeah, some real garlic, if you've got it. Garlic powder doesn't taste much like the real thing to me. I'd saute it first, though and then add it to the soup while you're warming it on the stove so that it has a chance to permeate. A quick glance at epicurious.com <http://epicurious.com>'s top broccoli cheese soup has tarragon in it. I don't really know how to use that spice, but if you do, go for it. -Craige On 10/13/05, Jane <twoslim wrote: > > The thing that I'm the very worst at, is figuring out what to add to a > recipe if I think it needs a " kick " in flavor! > Last night I made broccoli cheese soup but I was disappointed that the > soup didn't live up to what I expected. > I used: > broccoli > cheese > onion > potato > milk > veggie broth > garlic powder > salt > > Does anyone have any suggestions to kick up the flavor of the left overs? > thanks > Jane > >

If it's the fresh herb, a little goes a long way!!! :-) (once made crepes, don't remember what the filling was except I used way too much fresh tarragon and it was all I tasted...) Guest guest
Thank you for all the help you've offered to make my broccoli cheese soup better! I added MORE garlic, celery, hot sauce and pepper. It was much better! I've never used cayenne, that's pepper, right? I didn't have cilantro but I do like it and will try next time. Donna, I did look in two different stores for celtic salt, last time you mentioned it, but didn't find it. I'll probably have to go to a store with a bigger specially section. I agree, a good salt would have helped. I love this group! You are always there with help! Jane
Guest guest
> I've never used cayenne, that's pepper, right? Yup! It's often the pepper in hot sauce, but you can also get it ground in a jar, like regular black pepper. Glad your soup was improved!!! :-) *hugs* Amy
Guest guest
Hi Jane: You may want to add some black pepper to it. And maybe some more salt and garlic powder. Sage or thyme might be good also. Gayle
Guest guest
A little celery salt might be good also instead of more regular salt. Gayle
