EW!) that the MRE's he eats in the field (military...army) are between 2000 and 4000 calories!!!!!!! Wow. Guest guest Posted October 15, 2005 Report Share Posted October 15, 2005 ---Mel, I would rather eat an MRE than what is at BK : ). my hubby is quite thankful for the amount of calories this week in his MRE's--they just deployed a week ago and are spending massive amounts of time training physically : )--MRE's are it till they come in from training grounds. I just tell him he will be looking forward to my veggie home-cooking when he comes at home at Christmas briefly before returning. I look at it this way--MRE's fulfill a specific purpose if used for what they are designed for--the " monster " sandwiches from anywhere are just pure gluttony at it's finest : ). take care : )... In the field, you supposed to only get two a day... and, with all the work they're doing they burn it off, especially in harsher weather! He deploys to Saddir City in mid-late december. And his unit refused to allow him to go veggie before deploying so he gave up on it till he gets out of the army. Guest guest Posted October 16, 2005 Report Share Posted October 16, 2005 --- Mel, can your BF trade MRE's with someone? is it an option? a lot of times they don't all get the same one and Mark trades a lot. he said they have about 4 good veggie options although none are vegan. but he likes the beans and rice one and the cheese ravioli. there is no way you could get me to drink the " shelf-stable " carton of milk in there. unfortunately my hubby is oe of those that will eat the monster sandwiches but he is so skinny it doesn't seem to matter. I tell him he can still drop dead from high cholesterol without being overweight : ) but it doesn't phase him yet...take care : ).... There are usually about 4 vegetarian MRE's per case - so if he can talk to the guy/gal in charge of the cases - he may be able to change but " under the wire " so to speak. I know the military can get away with anything, but isn't that wrong/illegal? What if he was vegetarian for religious reasons? I wonder if they would accomodate him then? Perhaps it's not worth it to him to complain, but it seems like he could actually win this one if he pushed just a little harder.
