Hahahah, that's what I thought when I went looking for barley.

Couldn't find it at all. I thought " now, I know I'm in Iowa, but

there's got to be barley somewhere... " Well, I found it in a box with

all of the instant soup mixes and broths. It's called quick cooking

barley (only 10 min). What a strange place for, I think I need to

speak with the grocery manager on that one.

Denise, that's funny. I have yet to find the 10 min. quick cook type and I've

looked everywhere. I see the pearl in bags all over the place.

I've had recipes calling for the quick cook abd I've passed those recipes up.

--- Denise,

I'm not sure where exactly you are located in Iowa but I have had

luck finding pearled barley cheap in a local Asian market--local for

me is a 35-40 mile radius though : ). I have never found anything

other than quick-cooking barley in a grocery store like Hy-Vee or

Fareway. Pot barley I get at Paul's grains which is in Laural, IA--

straight south of Marshalltown on hwy 14. Paul's Grains carries tons

of good stuff, all organic, and I believe he does mail order. Just

doing a search of Paul's Grains will pull him up : ). They are a

homeschool family that run an organic farm. They carry mostly grains,

flours, cereals, etc but I have also gotten dried beans, dried fruits,

and carob chips. They are big suppliers to health food stores in our

state : ). We have never done mail order as it is fun to just drive

down and kids are allowed to look around the farm and play with the

animals : ). Just another idea from someone else in Iowa who struggles

finding stuff : )...........

Anne,

THANK YOU! so much for this information. I found their website right

away. I will definitely pass this on to many of my friends who are

always looking for organic and natural grain products. Perhaps my

friend Donna and I could drive over there one day, she'd love to visit

with them.

Ahh, hadn't thought of looking in an Asian Market. We're due to visit

one the next time we're in Des Moines.

have a great weekend!
