A common misconception. US law requires all sugar to be processed to white sugar. To get brown sugar, they then add molasses to the refined white sugar. I'm sure it is better than white sugar, but please don't believe it is less processed or refined! If you want unprocessed/unrefined, buy evaporated cane juice. It can't be sold as " sugar " as it is unrefined.
Guest guest
Good info, I was always under the impression it wasn't refined. How about the raw turbinado sugar? I use that one often. rhiamom <rhiamom wrote: , purplepassion <thelilacflower> wrote: > > Yes, brown sugar is better, use the dark brown. It's not refined. A common misconception. Guest guest
I will try the cane juice. I got blackstrap molasses today. I am using that in my tea and I am happy, but for the iced green tea I need something lighter, either the maple or this cane juice. I will get both next Sunday at whole foods. - rhiamom Saturday, November 05, 2005 8:09 PM Re: Brown Sugar , purplepassion <thelilacflower> wrote: > > Yes, brown sugar is better, use the dark brown. Blackstrap molasses is great stuff; that's where all the " impurities " from raw sugar end up when they make refined white sugar. Turbinado sugar is less processed than white and brown sugar, but still pretty processed. Evaporated cane juice is the least processed of all the sugar cane products. Sucanat is the best known brand, but other brands are cheaper. End of sugar educational lecture series...
Guest guest
If you want a light sweetener that won't impact your blood sugar, go with Agave Nectar!!! You can get it at Whole Foods. It's WONDERFUL and very light:) , " rhiamom " <rhiamom@g...> wrote: > > , " PuterWitch " <puterwitch@c...> wrote: > > > > I will try the cane juice. I got blackstrap molasses today. A great deal of " brown sugar " these days is white sugar, sprayed with molasses. Watch the label.
