Guest guest
When you focus on Vegan the results are different:East Bay - 12South Bay - 9SF - 11 I think this is part of the answer to your question - there is more serious support for vegan/veg food in the (central) East Bay. Per capita the East Bay looks even better, if you exclude San Leandro and south which are pretty much a veg*n wasteland (same goes for San Pablo north; El Cerrito north except for the recently opened Symphonie - which is related to an Oakland place). Including those places within East Bay is like including the Peninsula with SF.Greg -------------- Original message from "Tammy, BAVeg" <tammy: -------------- Hi, there was a nice review earlier this month posted for Raw Energy cafe .. check 'em out! http://bayareaveg.org/ug/display.htm?id=601 http://www.eastbayexpress.com/restaurants/raw_talent/Content?oid=975412 Interestingly, East Bay has the fewest veg restaurants between East Bay, South Bay, and SF region, yet I seem to randomly come across more veg press about East Bay businesses than the other counties .. Guest guest
Tammy,Since SF is a city I should really have focused on cities to be fair all the way around the Bay: Berkeley = 8 vegan places for 100,000 people = 1:12,000 Palo Alto = 2 vegan places for 60,000 people = 1:30,000 Sunnyvale = 3 vegan places for 130,000 people = 1:43,000SF = 11 vegan places for 750,000 people = 1:68,000 Oakland = 2 vegan places for 400,000 people = 1:200,000 San Jose = 4 vegan places for 900,000 people = 1:225,000 That's 5:1 better per capita support in Berkeley relative to SF. Sunnyvale is actually better than SF, which is a bit of a shocker and puts SF to shame. We're all pretty lucky when you compare to most of the US... But we need to keep supporting our favorite veg*n spots to maintain that luck, especially during the Great Recession. (One of my favorite vegan restaurants reported business is down ~40%!) If we can't spend a lot of money these days, at least we can write Ultimate Guide reviews to encourage others to go.Gregref: http://www.bayareacensus.ca.gov/cities/cities.htm -------------- Original message from "Tammy, BAVeg" <tammy: -------------- Hi, there was a nice review earlier this month posted for Raw Energy cafe .. check 'em out! http://bayareaveg.org/ug/display.htm?id=601 http://www.eastbayexpress.com/restaurants/raw_talent/Content?oid=975412 Interestingly, East Bay has the fewest veg restaurants between East Bay, South Bay, and SF region, yet I seem to randomly come across more veg press about East Bay businesses than the other counties ..
