and very close by there is a new Mexican restaurant right across from the blue cube part of the new Jewish Museum called Tropisueno that has the word vegan right on the menu for at least one option although I assume they have more vegan options than that (although they don't use vegan on their on line menu but it's on their board at the restaurant).

Yesterday I had an unexpected free hour in the city.  I stepped into the move theater complex at 4th and Mission, the big Metreon place that has movies, coffee shops, video games, etc.  I was just going to visit the facilities (note to all you leafleters:  free and clean facilities at the Metreon!).  Right inside the front door I got distracted by the smell of food.

Turns out there’s a new farmer’s market in the Metreon, and it’s going to be there every day!  I went over to check it out, expecting over-priced gifts and crappy fast food.  I guess I thought it couldn’t be that good b/c it was in a theater complex.  Boy was I wrong.

I walked by the African BBQ place and almost ordered the veggie samosas and fried plantains, but I knew I needed to explore the entire place before making my choice.  The far end of the market was all fruits and veggies.  The end I wandered into was prepared food stalls.

I walked by the falafel place and they said, “Want a free sample?  It’s all vegan!â€Â  I looked down to see what animal rights shirt I had on, and I didn’t.  I was wearing a business suit.  I replied, “Of course I want a free sample!  But why (god this is good) did you tell me it was vegan?â€Â  And they said, “We get that question so often we’ve just started using it for marketing!â€Â  Wow.

Next to them was a dim sum place.  The menu had one option called “vegan.â€Â  I said to the server, “Thanks for having a vegan option, it sounds delicious!â€Â  She looked at me like I was kind of nutty and said, “That’s just the one called vegan.  All the options marked with a star are totally vegan.â€Â  Half the menu was marked with a star!

Then I wandered by the Afghan bread-and-dip stall.  You know that company?  They’re always at markets and their stuff is SO GOOD.  They were also offering everyone “free samples, vegan and vegetarian!â€Â

So even though I was not looking for lunch, as you can imagine, I ended up eating.  I had to do my vegan duty and support the vegan awesomeness.  Falafel (amazing), dim sum (to die for), bread and dip (I *love* that stuff!), and of course, a bit of friend plantains.  There was also a vegan raw food place, 3 bakeries, and an Indian food stall.  Every single stall knew what vegan meant and had vegan options.

If you work in the downtown San Francisco, take a lunch break at the Metreon to support the new market and the yummy vegan options. The next time one of your co-workers says "being vegan must be really difficult," take them here.  And if you don’t work in downtown San Francisco, please stop and take 30 seconds of silence to give thanks for being veg in the Bay Area.  J

Wow! Thanks for the great review. I take

my kids to Zeum a lot – right across the street, and never knew they had such

wonderful options so close. Thanks to you, we’ll be visiting them very soon!

unnecessary so that the necessary may speak.” My question is:

" And how, exactly, is that done? "
