Flood KPFA with veg and animal rights voices instead of boycotting

Although I helped draft the KPFA boycott petition after hearing the "Vegetarian Myth" programming, I believe Mango makes a good point (below). We need non-corporate media and KPFA is in financial straits. We should, instead of boycotting, flood the Local Station Board meetings with veg and animal rights voices, call in to as many programs as possible and express veg and animal rights voices, and flood the candidates for Local Station Board with emails expressing our frustration that the Animal/ Veg program has been on hold since 2005 when the world desperately needs our voices. We should also support the many programs that do not air anti-veg programming. KPFA, 94.1 FM brings essential much- needed non-corporate news and information to the Bay Area and the world.

Instead of boycotting KPFA, we should donate to thenon-commercial station and try to influence its programming. Asfor this particular program, the producer is the only oneresponsible and one should give her feedback and suggestions. The station has no control over the content, and that's why weneed to support these independent media that are not bought bythe corporations. -Mango Martin@ .com, Rosalind Lord <rclord wrote:>> > > > Sign To Boycott KPFA Radio For Anti-Vegetarian Anti-Animal > > Programming!> >> > Hi all,> >> > Please sign this petition at http://www.petition spot.com/ petitions/

Being a significant financial donor is one way to influence an organization.

Another way is to get involved. From personal experience, I know this works ... I remember the Contra Costa Earth Day celebrations weren't veg. When suggested at an open community organizing meeting, they were open to the idea. Of course, it wasn't as simple as just asking them to do it and they did it .... a couple of us joined the organizing committee and did all the work to make it happen.

KPFA offers an apprenticeship. Perhaps this could be such an opportunity to bring a more veg/AR influence to their programming. On their website, they say "If you have been looking to integrate media expression, new technology and have a sense of social & spiritual responsibility, then First Voice may be for you. If you come from an under-represented community, are adaptable, understanding, flexible, committed, have a positive outlook, and are willing to work in a diverse group setting, we encourage you to apply."

Oct 30th is the deadline to apply for the program beginning this December.

Additionally, what about pitching a veg/AR story to the Full Circle weekly program
