Vegetarian Starter Kit Stands

Hi Everyone,

I'm writing in hopes a kind soul out there could help me monitor a Vegetarian Starter Kit Stand I recently placed on the corner of Haight and Clayton. I learned of these stands on this list about a year ago and was so fascinated to hear of them, I recently bought 5 stands to place in San Francisco and Berkeley.

Below is a link showing/explaining the VSK Stands..

http://www.change.org/action_for_animals/projects/view/vegetarian_starter_kit_stands

Amd the actual VSK: http://www.petaliterature.com/VEG297.pdf

There was a stand on Union Street I used to fill once a month or so but it suddenly disappeared. I live in Napa and work in Mill Valley so getting to the city often to fill/check the stands isn't always easy.

Also, for anyone out there interested in spreading the word of compassion and helping animals, a great way to distribute VSK's I've found, maybe not the best, but it seems to work, is placing Vegetarian Starter Kits in empty/abandoned newspapers stands. For example, The Onion newspaper has gone out of business so once a month, I walk up Market Street with VSK's in hand, putting 10 or so in the rack where The Onion once was. To be honest, most of the green newspaper racks on Market, through Union Square are empty, so I place a few VSK's in quite a few empty newspaper stands in hopes of getting the word out. This seems to work pretty well. My Barber at Polk & Sutter monitors an empty Onion newspaper rack I've adopted and tells me people take 2 to 5 VSK's per day.

I monitor about 40 vacant newspaper stands in Napa and Marin and go through about 1200 VSK's a month. So for anyone out there wanting to turn that evening walk into a great way to get the word out, maybe this is for you. =) And PETA supplies the VSK's for the actual stands free of charge.

For what it's worth, about 15 years ago I was walking down Telegraph Street, probably with a piece of pepperoni pizza in hand, totally oblivious to Factory Farming, and picked up a piece of Animal Rights literature sitting there, on top of a newspaper stand, and what an impact it had. For the next 15 years, I didn't touch meat, and recently began doing what outreach I could, in hopes of reducing some suffering out there.

Anyway, if anyone out there could help monitor some VSK Stands in the city, please let me know..

YAY Robert!!!That is SOOOO great!I can regularly put guides out on Haight and Clayton.I was monitoring several stands a while back and people took a TON, requiring so little work on our part. This is SUCH a great way to make a difference for animals! One problem I found was with the stands getting vandalized and the Department of Public Works actually seized one because of that. SF started phasing out allowing those plastic stands in favor of the metal ones you're talking about.

If every one of us on this list ordered veg starter guides from PETA or Compassion Over Killing or whoever (which they send for free if you can't afford) and just put those out at the library, cafes, book stores, vegetarian restaurants, etc., we would reach so many people with so little effort!

Who else wants to get involved??!Thanks for all you're doing, Robert!NoraOn Sun, Jan 17, 2010 at 10:40 AM, Robert Anderson <sfautocad wrote:

Thank you Nora and everyone who's written with kind words about the Vegetarian Starter Kit Stands..

Another Great way to get the word out is hanging these tabs flyer's up courtesy of Vegan Outreach.

http://www.veganoutreach.org/advocacy/resources.html#flyers

I use my computer to also add MEAT.ORG, CHOOSEVEG.COM, and TRYVEG.COM on the tabs. I post these at campuses throughout the North Bay and other busy spots and bulletin boards and when I check on them, many of the tabs are often taken. Someone once told me a Vegetarian will save the lives of thousands of animals over the course of their life, while an activist can potentially save hundreds of thousands! So if you're looking for a cheap, east way to get the word out, this may be for you.. =)

Nora & Robert,

In Defense of Animals would love to help

stock those stands with our Vegan Starter Kit that we can provide free as well.

Our headquarters is in San Rafael,

so if anyone is heading down to SF from Marin, they could stop by and pick some

up and save the shipping costs. We can ship them as well. Just contact Jessica and she will ship any

amount for free if it’s requested.

I’m downtown leafleting at Nordstroms every

other Sunday. Are there stands around downtown SF that I can stock?
