Guest guest
For those of you who may not have heard about this yet...the article says that Samonella may be in " Follow Your Heart " products and some tofu products, etc. Please read the link for the products that the FDA has listed. http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/2010/03/salmonella_in_obscure_flavorin.html http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/HVPCP/#All http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/HVPCP/HydrolyzedVegetableProteinProductsLi\ st2010.xls Lori

I've certainly seen it in many, many ingredient lists. This makes me wonder what else you can't determine is in your food (maybe something non-vegan) by looking at the ingredient list. --Ruchira http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/HVPCP/#All http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/HVPCP/HydrolyzedVegetableProteinProductsList2010.xls Lori

A less worrying possibility is that this is because the list of foods affected by this recall is actually very short, whereas the list of foods containing HVP (at least, based on my personal experience reading ingredient lists) is very long. --Ruchira --Ruchira http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/HVPCP/#All http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/HVPCP/HydrolyzedVegetableProteinProductsList2010.xls Lori
Guest guest
thanks, lori, for the info. it's a sad thing it happened to Follow Your Heart, but it points to the state of our food system, where cross-contamination is an everyday occurrence. Here's FYH's direct release with their products that are being recalled: http://followyourheart.com/news/Most are in Southern California only, except for the organic creamy ranch dressing, which includes a 128 oz size. Restaurants? Be careful when you order vegan ranch dressing on your salads. The other comment I'd like to make is that many people are sickened by salmonella all the time from the culprit bacteria in meat, dairy, poultry, and eggs. But the meat/dairy industries ($$$, CEOs on board with FDA, etc.) can stem the recalls until there have been sufficient deaths. In this case, thankfully, no one has gotten sick, but doesn't it make you wonder?
