Guest guest
There is a new vegetarian Thai restaurant opened in Foster City called Basil Cha Cha. Sweet Basil Thai moved a couple of restaurants over and they have opened a new all Vegetarian restaurant in the old location on Beach Park Blvd. The menu is very similar to the original one - https://webpos.wlinformation.com/sweetbasilfostercity/ - but w/ tofu and mock meats and of course no fish sauce! Guest guest
Website is for their regular restaurant, which has relocated 3 doors down. We were there last night and they're definitely all vegetarian. Most all the menu items can be made vegan or are already. Prices are very reasonable, décor was very nice and a great place to take a date. Located right along the Bay and easy access to the Bay side trail. Guest guest
This restaurant is great - just what was needed on the Peninsula. I ate there this evening with two omnivores and they loved it. So did I. With all the care that goes into the food and the presentation I don't know how they can offer it at these prices. When I asked this evening the fellow who was serving thought the menu had already (within first week) been reworked so that the vegan optional dishes now were automatically vegan. In other words, he thought all eggs and dairy had been removed from the menu items but the menu had not been rewritten. Desserts, on the other hand, are still all vegetarian except for the mango sticky rice which is vegan. Guest guest
I'm so glad that Dipti posted about Basil Cha Cha! We also dined there and it was delicious. Very artful presentation of the food, loved the stylish dishes used and the food was really yummy -- especially if you enjoy spicy food. And for a restaurant that has only been open 2 weeks, it was particularly an excellent experience. There's lots of items already marked as "vegan" on the menu, and others marked as "vo" for vegan optional. To Greg's comment: "When I asked this evening the fellow who was serving thought the menu had already (within first week) been reworked so that the vegan optional dishes now were automatically vegan. In other words, he thought all eggs and dairy had been removed from the menu items but the menu had not been rewritten." Our server yesterday said that nearly everything could be made vegan but didn't say that everything is now vegan. But it sounds like they're getting a lot of feedback from vegans :-) We did lobby the server for more vegan dessert options. The mango sticky rice was very enjoyable. The server also told me that the owner is moving towards vegetarianism, and made it sound like that's one of the reasons why she chose to open a veg version of the restaurant. When we were there, unfortunately we saw quite a few people come in expecting the old meat version of the restaurant, then told this is all veg and the meat place is over a few doors, turn around and leave. Anyways, let's get some reviews for them in the Guide! http://bayareaveg.org/ug/display.htm?id=991 I have photos of the dishes we ordered - will hopefully get them online and you can all see how gorgeous the food looks, and hopefully you can get down there to taste it first-hand. The entrees are a very reasonable $8 ... Guest guest
Hi folks! Chris and I have been here -- Basil Cha Cha Vegetarian Bistro -- a couple of times now and have been really happy with it. We took a small group there last month, and introduced several new people to the restaurant. Everyone really enjoyed and said they would return. As we really want to do more than just talk about the restaurant, we are planning to host another future group dinner on May 13th so we can talk and eat (see link in my sig below) Check out my blog post about the restaurant; I tried to also capture their beautiful presentation in some photographs also included in the link below. http://www.generationv.org/foster-city-gets-its-first-veg-restaurant In summary, the new Basil Cha Cha Vegetarian Bistro has both style and substance. I hope they thrive in Foster City. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wishes to enjoy delicious vegan food at affordable prices in a pleasant atmosphere.
