Vajrapani Institute seeks a full-time kitchen assistant to support the kitchen

manager in cooking for group and private retreatants and staff. We also seek a

temporary kitchen assistant for immediate availability.

 

As a retreat center, we cultivate a contemplative environment and are looking

for someone who will help support this. Although previous experience of Buddhism

isn't mandatory, we ask that candidates have a sincere interest to study and

contemplate. This position is a precious opportunity to integrate with a

community of dedicated spiritual practitioners.

 

In adapting to this environment and to best work on our kitchen team, the

following qualities are most conducive:

 

Ability to maintain inner calm and centeredness among kitchen activity, while

meeting mealtime deadlines

Enjoy cooking; experience in cooking for groups is helpful

Enjoy working with others; skillful at working under the direction of the

kitchen manager

Ease and ability to communicate

Ability to work in an efficient and spacious manner – vision and attention to

detail

Valid driver's license for shopping for all kitchen needs

 

The position is 35-hours per week. Work days are Thursday through Monday, though

this may change and will be finalized prior to hire. Compensation includes room

and board, monthly stipend, and health insurance after 6 months. The main reward
