Guest guest
Hi everyone: I've been a vegan for many years, but I recently switched my dogs to a vegan dog food and they LOVE it. However, I'm getting the usual negativity from family who think I'm nuts......:-) I'm just wondering if there is anyone out there who has had their pets on vegan or vegetarian food for a long period of time, and the results? Thank you very much, Kristen Johnson kristen_johnson
Guest guest
Hi Kristen, I know someone who rescued a dog five years ago (part Spitz and ??) and started feeding him vegan dog food. This dog is without any ailments and is strong and full of abundant energy. He also has an amazing coat. He is an indoor/outdoor dog in a rural setting and never needs a bath. You heard me, he never has a bath! The thick coat is shiny and clean and odorless. His breath is a little stinky though... Good luck, Donna On Fri, Apr 23, 2010 at 10:07 AM, Kristen Johnson <kristen_johnson wrote: Hi everyone:I've been a vegan for many years, but I recently switched my dogs to a vegan dog food and they LOVE it. Guest guest
Hi all, I think both dogs and rabbits make ideal companions for vegans, as both thrive on a vegan diet. Unsure if you got more private responses, but I know there are others who are currently feeding their dogs vegan food and very happy with the results. Kristen, I don't have dogs, but in your interest for feedback from others, here's a story from a local group, also including a recipe to make your own doggie food and cookies. http://www.ahan.org/testimonial_scooter.html There's a vegan cookbook called Cookbook for People Who Love Animals (5th edition, copyright 1989), and they also have a section of recipes for dogs. If there is anyone making vegan food for their dog who would be interested in sharing their recipes, please email me -- we've shared recipes via our newsletter in the past for people, this might be fun to do for our canine friends, too. Guest guest
Here's a link to the " Buddy Biscuits " (vegan dog treats) that I buy at Trader Joe's. http://www.amazon.com/Cloud-Star-Biscuit-Molasses-Formula/dp/B00014F83Y Lucky (the dog next door) loves them and always begs me for more! -Rachel D.
