Raw Corn ok to eat without cleaning?

Hello,

Is it ok to chop up raw corn and just munch on that?

I am new to the whole raw food thing, and am trying to

ease my way into it, and get off the horrible diet I have

been on all my life. My brother is helping me & encouraging

me

to do this!

I went to the organic store, the one that sells the

corn from a bushel looking thing, and I weighed out

a bag of it, and here are my questions:

1.) do I need to wash the corn in any way, or can

I just put it in the grinder and kind of grind it down

and munch on it as a snack? (it tastes prett good raw!)

2.) if I have to wash it, won't this destroy all the

'living' things in it, like enzymes (and other things

we haven't discovered yet).

3.) is raw corn even considered healthy, or should

I start out with something like fruit or tomatos

(i.e. something with squishy juice inside it

like tomatos).

4.) Am I right to say that anything a person does to

the corn, like cooks it or steams it or whatever, kills

the 'living' part of the corn? Thats the theory, right,

that these foods straight from the vine to your stomach,

have lots of enzymes and things that are really healthy

for you?

Any comments would be most appreciated.

I suppose. I eat raw corn, I have some now. There's something about

the taste and structure that lends me to believe it may not be food

for me. I mainly don't like how it runs right through my system

without digesting, in other words, some of it comes out as

individual, whole kernels. Cereal - a grass such as wheat, oats, or

corn, the starchy grains of which are used as food. I don't eat

wheat or oats, maybe I'm not meant to eat any grass.

I wash my vegetables off, I can't imagine washing corn could do any

harm. My jury's out on the healthiness of corn. I don't know when

I'll receive a verdict. I don't buy it very often, there's something

about it I don't like.

" 4.) Am I right to say that anything a person does to the corn, like

cooks it or steams it or whatever, kills the 'living' part of the

corn? "

Yes.

" Thats the theory, right, that these foods straight from the vine to

your stomach, have lots of enzymes and things that are really healthy

for you? "

That's my belief, straight from the vine to the stomach is the

healthiest approach to eating.

you could blend it, though I think that's not where you're coming from (no

appliances, eh?)

Another mention of nuts and avocados singly. Avocados really are

different from any other fruit or vegetable. Why did David Wolfe

pick " Avocado " for his name on that show? maybe because he figures

that the avocado is the one plant food that a cooked eater could rely

on in a transition to a healthier diet.

I like the mono meal idea the best, just eat one item for a meal. I

don't do that, I just munch on various items at each meal, but each

singly. So no, I don't blend. If I'm out and all that's available

is raw salad, I'll eat it and that's about as much blending as I want

to come in contact with. No appliances, no processing, that's a

harking back for cooked food. And if I did that, I'd probably just

wind up going back to cooked.

I don't think grains are healthy for people. I suggest doing some googleing on

pros and cons of eathing grains.

I think animals who are meant to eat grains have gizzards. I think we are best

suited

from a biochemical point of view to eat mostly fruits, nuts, and leafs.

I think that the fact that birds have gizzards,

which enables them to break down the grains for

digestion, shows us that most grains are not the

optimal food for human use.

However, perhaps certain other grains are beneficial,

and proper for humans to consume. Perhaps corn is one

of them.

The verdict is still out (for me) on this one.

Hey, I'm still trying to teach myself to chew

properly.

I eat corn. Personlly, I like it right off the cob and I don't see

anything wrong with putting it in the microwave to lightly cook it

before I do eat it.

Dear Boat. (Is that your name? I din't see any other in your post.) I eat corn

by peeling off the leaves and eating it off the cob. No cooking required. I'm

not really sure what that bushel looking thing is though. Also I suggest that

you get some fruits that you like and nuts and avocados. In order for a new diet

I love corn right off the cob as well ... fresh picked and still

warm from being in the sun it is truly awesome. We used to eat it

this way as kids (sneak out to the field and grab one or two). I

still eat it right off the cob, but have to settle for getting it at

a farm stand or the grocery story. I could never figure out why

anyone would cook it. I see folks boil it to death, slop it up with

butter and salt, and I wonder if it has any taste left at all after

all that. They don't know what they are missing!

but when you get it from roadsides stands

like that (lets say they claim to be organic,

for the sake of argument)....is it ok

to eat it raw like that? without washing

it? maybe just grinding it halfway or

something?

Ron,

If you must cook it, choose the least destructive way: steaming. Microwaving

is far more radical than conventional cooking. Read this:

http://www.mercola.com/article/microwave/hazards.htm

The story he cites about the person who died from microwave heated blood made a

big impression on me.

One thing I like to do during the summer is to take medium-sized tomatoes (not

romas), slice the tops off them, spoon out the insides where I just have the

shell. I'll stuff these with a mixture of raw corn just cut off the cob mixed

with fresh-squeezed lemon juice and a bit of fresh chopped or naturally-dried

parsley (sometimes i'll substitute fresh/dried mint for the parsley). Two

stuffed tomatoes make a pretty decent lunch with a tall glass of ice water.

I forgot about corn being a grain. Fresh corn has so much water content, and we

are not grinding it into flour. I think it may be different. It feels right when

I eat it in summer, Lane
