Guest guest
Avocados are supposed to do the opposite to your blood that sugar does. I read this in a health magazine that avos are good for diabetics. Maureen Mail - 250MB free storage. Do more. Manage less.

Guest guest
Shelley, bless you for your help to your friend and dad. I think almost everyone's health would benefit from no animal products. It's easy, cheap and safer than medication. I don't know why anyone with diabetes wouldn't give it a try. Sandy
Guest guest
I have heard other diabetics mention that the less meat they eat, the more stable their blood sugar is. Maybe it has more to do with eating healthy in general (complex carbs instead of simple) than no meat? Who knows -- but there is anecdotal evidence! Guest guest
Diabetic here, I did change to vegetarian but, had my blood sugar under control before that because I watched what I ate, carb wise , portion wise, lost weight, (a lot) , exercise. What the vegetarian did for me was loose the bad cholesterol which is worse for diabetics because they are prone to heart attacks. My sugar will still go up if I eat a larger portion of vegetarian meals than I should, or if I don't exercise and act like a (should I say computer potato lol ). Have been type 2 diabetic for years. This is a much healthier diet, does help but, won't reverse diabetes. Prevention magazine said last year they are testing a cure on human's now that has worked on mice, it is in the second year now of testing, have heard nothing since last year. I trust Prevention magazine and am hoping. I hate diabetes. Hate it when others at work have a birthday and shove the cake in my face, celebrate everyone else's birthday and ignore mine. Just happened yesterday and they asked why I wouldn't sing them happy birthday (so insensitive). Sitting there saying oh this is so good mmm mmm mmm too bad you can't have any. My boss usually gets me a diabetic cupcake but, no always and never celebrates my birthday like she does the others. Sorry for complaining just feeling a little down. What I should do is call the union and complain about discrimination. I'm making a diabetic strawberry pie this weekend and eating it in front of their faces, (they love my diabetic strawberry pie lol), not going to offer them a bite. Lol Lovin my smoothies and veggies though and they put me down for being a vegetarian too.lol Nancy
Guest guest
Me again, the diabetic, I am no longer on meds, just diet and exercise, very nice not to have to worry about side effects and complications. Nancy
Guest guest
Maybe a lot of the me*t and other non-veg stuff is breaded and fried and they don't stop to think of the coating too as carbs. I know the veg diet is the best way to go. My MIL diabetes was so much better when she stopped the McD's, fish sandwich, and their nuggets, and buckets of KFC, etc. She didn't become full vegetarian but she did so much better with her diet. Guest guest
Oh ya'll, I wish I could get my father on a vegetarian or even a semi-vegetarian diet. This would cut his blood sugar down greatly. His levels are way too high and his weight is way out of control. He has to have his knees replaced this summer because of a workman's com injury back in the early 90's but his weight and diabeties have made it worse. He is such a southern, farmer boy that has lived on meat and potatoes, both fried, that getting him away from it is very difficult, like cutting his head off. He also can't find it in him to cook because standing hurts and my mother's cooking is, well, late into the evening, not good for anyone's digestion, and not seasoned well or burnt because she is so ADD that she forgets what she has got on. She has even bronzed a tea kettle because she forgot that she had it on and got in the shower and didn't hear it going off. Vegetables are strickly a side item for my father and a small side at that. My mother has managed to cut salt out of her diet because of her kidney's but bungled all the other seasonings because her pallet is way off. My father makes up for it by adding salt. I won't mention the soda he drinks. If he lived with me, I could control his diet, but I couldn't stand him living with me or my mother for that fact. They would both drive me nuts.!! Hopefully after his knee surgery and some time in rehab, his diet will be controlled by them and he will be in a better state of mind to accept the changes he needs to make to his life. Thanks for all the positive feedback regarding your experiences with vegetarian diets and the positive affects in your life!! Dena
