Guest guest
Hi Tenesa, I purchased Alissa's book and DVD and absolutely love them! I was amazed at the heft of the book!! The information it contains was also a very nice surpise! She includes a LOT of information, many recipes, and a whole bunch of testimonials (from her on-line bulletin boards or e-mails, I think). It's packed with color photos of the foods, too. The only problem I had with it, and it's just because I'm one of " those, " is that she needs an editor or a better editor (bless her heart!). I'm easily put off by words misused (such as using the word " then " for the word " than " ), misspellings and other editorial mistakes. That would be my ONLY complaint, and it isn't even close to enough to make me discourage anyone from buying it!!! I also strongly suggest the DVDs! The two-DVD set was/is wonderful! She prepares several dishes while talking to two women she's invited over to try the food and has encouraged to go raw for 30 days. They discuss the benefits of raw foods, ooh and aw over the many foods she's creating and they're sampling (and they DO look wonderful!), and talk about how Alissa got started, among other things. The DVD is really well done and a big reason my husband is more open to the idea of going raw! Alissa's book and DVD set definitely receive a big 'two thumbs up' from me! " I have been looking around for a good book on eating a raw diet to help us get started. I am leaning towards this book. It has recipes in it as well. I am just wondering if anyone has read it or if you know anything about the author. Is this a good book to read when you are starting out? Guest guest
I am planning on getting her book next month. I have been looking over her website and I want to try making the Pesto stuffed Mushrooms that she has the recipe on the site. I was hoping you could help me. It doesn't say to soak the nuts first on the site is this right you don't soak them first just put them in the food processor? I have all the stuff to make these but I just don't know if I should soak the nuts first or not. Thanks for any help you can give me. I am new to doing any type of recipes for raw foods. Guest guest
> Jennifer, > Sorry, but at this point I am not very helpful at this. I am new to this too. I can't wait for her book to get here so that I can really get started! I hope that one of the others here can help you out. When you figure it out and make it, let me know how it turned out. Guest guest
I use Alissa's book daily. I think you asked about a stuffed mushroom recipe, which I've not tried because I no longer eat raw mushrooms (just a choice)...but I'm sure it's delicious. I like all her recipes that I've tried so far. I hope that answers your question, Tenesa. Diana of Dewberry Hill > Jennifer, > Sorry, but at this point I am not very helpful at this. Guest guest
you are not the only one. i am totally put off by the need for editing in her book. to me, it is sloppy. I mean, if you are gonna go to the trouble of marketing a big, glossy, professional looking book, why not have it edited properly? Spell things properly. Don't leave out so many ingredients and instructions. I would also add that I think many of the recipes are incorrect in their proportions b/c I have followed numerous recipes to the letter and they come out either: too soupy, too stiff, too salty, very bland, etc.... One other thing: it is really disappointing to not have the Yield listed. I have made something and wound up having to (last minute) scrounge for ingredients to make 2 more batches b/c it made so little. I have also made some that wind up being enough to feed an army. And, that can just be wasteful. But, on the plus side: it has great photos which is rare in the raw book world as you know. And, there are also some really yummy recipes in there too. Guest guest
she has recipes that call for both soaked and unsoaked nuts, depending on the recipe. So, if it says not to soak it, then I would say: don't soak, just grind up in the food processor. If you are a real stickler about using unsoaked nuts, you could always soak them, then dry in dehydrator and then use according to recipe.
