Does anyone know if their automatic grass growing system works good?

Also, anyone know about Samson juicers and Green Power? I have a

Green-Power and it is really hard to push

produce into. Im wondering how the Samson compares

John,

I just bought one of their sprouters and am not impressed. It works ok but the

spray nozzles get clogged easily and water tends to pool in the low side of the

sprouter. It also isn't big enough for me (I juice sprouts) as you can grow as

many sprouts in 5 glass quart jars as you can with their large sprouter. That

said, it's probably a better deal than the other auto sprouters available.

In my opinion, the Omega 8003 is the best juicer for the money. But like the

Green Power (and any other low rpm juicer) it's harder to push the veggies

through. If you buy a high rpm juicer you'll sacrifice juice quality.

Paul

The Samson is a single auger and different that the green power. Samson does

make a twin gear but it's much like the green power! We used the single

Samson at CHI for wheat grass and some veggies and it did pretty well!

Greetings John,

I have one of the automatic sprouters and I find it " just o.k " to be

honest! Sure it does all the hard work for you, but it does not

sprout much. For the price I paid for it, I dont think it is worth

it.

I still have to buy my boxes of wheatgrass at the healthfood store.

However having said that, if you are just wanting to sprout a couple

of trays each of say sunflower and maybe alfalfa etc, then it is

great. I eat sprouts like they are going out of fashion, so I want a

lot!

I am reverting back to the idea sorrel gave me off the website:

rawfoods.com

She said to use bamboo plates to sprout which I am going to use

instead.

I also have a " twin health " juicer which is brilliant for

wheatgrass! Sure you have to push down on it, but it works well.

Goodluck and blessings,

Indiana.

Hi, I have heard that it's bad to juice wheatgrass or barley with a regular

juicer or vitamix. Does anyone know anything about this? I just started

growing my own with organic soil from coconuts and organic fertilizer from the

organic gardening store next to Trader Joes on Decatur. I got a great crop, but

I just read that a regular juicer/vitamix/high speed makes is oxidize or

something like that. Have you heard anything like that..Please let me know.

Thanks

for desserts etc.

You're right on.use a slow juicer (twin gear) or a wheat grass juicer made

just for that. At OHI we had $1,200 juicers just for wheat grass..ha. Now

the next question is why are you juicing wheatgrass? Or shall I say drinking

it?

The reason that a " regular " juicers are bad is that they use

extreme speed/friction and that actually heats up the juice at

the point of contact with the machinery. It's just plain too

brutal with the energy force of the vibrant juice.

The other " good " juicers have auger type " corkscrew " type bit

that does not turn faster than 90 rpm and just gently presses

the juice out.

Here is the " low " speed juicer I use:

I guess my real question is which juicer is easier to use, a twin gear

or a single auger type.

I have a greenpower and was wondering if a single auger type would be

much easier to use or if I should just stay

with my greenpower.

I have the L'equip Visor juicer. It is identical to the Samson except

it is a nicer design (cosmetically). I used a Samson juicer at one of

the raw food institutes this past summer for two weeks and the parts,

the way you use it and put it together, etc. are exactly the same.

The only difference is that the L'equip Visor is cheaper and prettier.

It also has a great warranty that I believe beats the Samson. I use

it to juice everything, literally. My sister has a Champion juicer

and I prefer it when juicing carrots or shredding a couple heads of

cabbage for sauerkraut because it can handle a lot and goes a bit

faster, although, it won't juice wheatgrass and doesn't do as well

with greens. It's also a snap to clean up. My 9 year old has been

using it since she was 7 and has no problem and the cleanup time is

about a minute or two. I would highly recommend it.

About growing wheatgrass: I have an EasyGreen sprouter and I love it.

I use it to grow alfalfa, broccoli and other sprouts in the small

trays. I rotate them so I have a new tray each day. It grows

wheatgrass great but you have to take it out for the last several days

as it gets to long for the EasyGreen. I prefer to grow my wheatgrass

in soil. I do it indoors in trays or put it out on my porch when the

weather is acceptable. It seems like a lot of work but in reality is

very easy -- just as easy really as a sprouter. I mean I have to fill

the Easy Green with water once a day and I have to water my wheatgrass

trays once a day...same effort. The only difference is an extra step

of spreading the soil in the tray before you start which takes just a

few seconds.

I purchased the plans to the sprouter at eatsprouts.com but I have

found her website to be a mess. It is very confusing. I was

disappointed. My brother-in-law is considering wading through the

pages and building one but the parts alone cost over $100. I bought

my EasyGreen for under $150. Also, you have to hook it up to a water

supply which for me would be inconvenient. Another thing to consider

is that, if grown in soil, the wheatgrass pulls the minerals from the

soil. I add some Azomite to my soil which has every mineral so the

wheatgrass is very mineral rich. Although, I think you can buy a

liquid Azomite to add to the water if you are growing it with water

only. You could also use a liquid kelp fertilizer to add minerals.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Yes. That's true. You need to use a juicer that is slow (about 100

RPM) and " squeezes " the juice out of the grass. Nutrients can be

destroyed by friction, heat, or oxidation. When juicing grasses you

want to use a juicer that has a juicing screw or " auger " . Some have

one and some have two.

The Samson, L'Equip Visor, Omega & SoloStar are some single auger

juicers. Green Star, Green Power and Samson Ultra dare some examples

of twin gear juicers. The twin gears are more expensive and don't do

quite as good a job on the grasses but may be quicker when doing

harder veggies like carrots. The single augers on the other hand do

the best job on grasses and can handle any fruit or veggie.

I would recommend one of the single augers. I have the L'Equip

which is probably the least expensive and I love it! I've used others

and in my opinion it's a nicer juicer. I think it's the lesser known

and that's why it costs less. It also has a fabulous warranty.

If you already have a good juicer but it just won't do grasses (like

the Champion juicer, for example) you may want to consider a manual

grass juicer. My sister uses one and it gives off the driest pulp I

have ever seen. It's a very, very good juicer. The downside, of

course, is that it's more work than an electric. The upside is that

the manual ones are very inexpensive and very effective. Some sites

(like wheatgrasskits.com) will let you purchase a manual juicer and

then later trade it in for an electric one if you don't want to spend

so much to begin with.

Thanks,

Jennifer
