Guest guest
I went to a raw potluck and was both irritated and angered at the situation. Two dishes were not raw. One mistakenly added frozen organic corn from costco, which isn't raw because they boil them before freezing them. She was disappointed when I told her. The other one used costcos salsa and then said when you go out to eat, you can not expect everything to be raw. She did not seem to care, which made me angry. I could have used not raw coconut oil in my cake icing, which is half price and no one would have noticed. But I spent twice as much, and used the organic, raw, not steamed coconut oil I pay dearly for. I also noticed everything had salt, which I tolerate, but do not use at home. Most everything was loaded with sweets, fats, salt, or chocolate and tasted great, but it is not what I normally eat at home, so I get the gurgles after the potlucks. I usually just have a smoothie for breakfast, salad for lunch with nut or seed dressing and then vegetable juice for dinner. My stomach stays calm with that menu. I am afraid I was the bearer of bad news in telling these people about the food not being raw. I am still upset about it and disappointed. We have health issues and are working hard to be raw. I expect this from not raw people, but not my raw friends. I am trying to be tolerant, but still feel upset about it. I plan to avoid or at least be very cautious of the dishes people bring that may have not raw food in them. Maureen

Guest guest
Maureen, Even if the potluck had all wonderful raw foods...potlucks by nature have such mixes and blends. That to sample each wonderuful dish would cause anyone to gurgle. It's always a challenge to dish up your plate with just the right mix and not sample everything. Blessings, Diana of Dewberry Hill who finds that potlucks are just too much of a confused mix to eat it all there Search presents - Jib Jab's 'Second Term'

Guest guest
Maureen, what is your purpose for going to a raw potluck? For me it would be the fellowship of like minded individuals and not necessarily the consumption of food. Did everyone bring a card that listed the ingredients as well as how the dish was prepared? If so one can choice what meets their dietary lifestyle. I have never been to a raw potluck but would love to attend one. Darcia
Guest guest
We have monthly potlucks here in Northwest Arkansas. We encourage people to bring a list of their ingredients, or the exact recipe if possible. People are at varying levels of their rawness have various beliefs about what is raw and what is " acceptable " or not....maple syrup, miso, honey, sprouted grains, etc. Therefore, if people list what's in the recipes, people can make their own decisions about what to eat or not eat. You can get so crazy in to being 100% raw, that you won't eat recipes with raw cashews, if the cashews weren't purchased at Nature's First Law, one of the very few places that will guarantee their cashews have been hand shelled, thus avoiding the heat process. Anyway, it's all an individual choice. When I attend our Raw Potlucks, I go with the attitude of " take what I need and leave the rest. " That makes for a wonderful environment to share support and friendship on this raw journey. (I also know how fortunate I am to live in a community where there ARE raw potlucks. Many people in America, and across the world, don't have such a resource to benefit from.) Guest guest
Yea, I like to go to rawfood potlucks for the comradery and just bring something I can eat with me. If there's anything else there I can eat, fine, if not, fine. It's just a couple hours of hanging out anyway, food is not the focus for me. I haven't been to any raw potlucks in a long time though, they're few and far between, not a big enough raw food community for much of that action. There is one, coincidentally, at a raw cafe this Saturday I'll be going to, heard about it and signed up for it at www.meetup.com. I won't be eating anything though, I'll just be investigating for as long as it lasts for me. I can't take any chances with my simple produce eating, nothing is worth breaking it for anything. It's just food, who cares? rawfood , Darcia Dillard <mrsdill@s...> wrote: > Maureen, what is your purpose for going to a raw potluck?
