If you would like some of that repeated, please let me know. Regarding the specific instance of fasting: First, when we fast (on water), our body stops receiving fuel from any external source. Physiologically, our body begins converting stored fat reserves into fuel (simple sugar), on which our body runs throughout the fast. When we break the fast, we want our body to switch quickly back to using externally supplied fuel (simple sugar). Fruits are the only viable source of large quantities of simple sugar in solution in water. In contrast, nuts are basically high-fat foods, 65-88% of the calories in nuts come from fat (varies by variety). So we ALWAYS break a fast on sweet / high-water-content fruits. Second, when someone is fasting, we always make sure the person remains well-hydrated. Virtually all commercially available nuts are dehydrated (previous posts) and contain virtually no water. Soaking only minimally alters this picture. The LAST thing we want to do when breaking a fast is introduce anything inherently dehydrating. Again, fruits have more water than any other food group, by far. Third, nuts are very high in rough, tree-bark-like nondigestible (insoluble) fiber. This material is harsh, and particularly so on a digestive system that is just " waking up " after a nice rest. In contrast, fruits contain virtually no nondigestible fiber. So eating nuts right after a fast would be, well ... nuts! (Sorry, I couldn't resist. Okay, I COULD have, but ....) Sharie _____ Hi Sharie and all, Have you had an opportunity to read some of my posts about what I DO eat? Those might be helpful. I certainly NEVER go hungry, rest assured of that! :) I have made a big shift though, in my relationship with the kitchen and with food as a social tool. I used to place food at the center of my social life. I prepared meals, went out to eat constantly, etc. Now, food is fun for me, and I enjoy what I eat, but I no longer approach food with a sense of ritual or social importance. Not sure whether this is on-target for your question, but it occurs to me so I'm sharing it. Regarding your tanning package, if it's been less than 3 days, you have the legal right to rescind the contract. Regarding nuts, please keep in mind other things I've written, about treating oneself kindly and so forth. Go at your own speed and in your own way. Learn what you can from others, but always make your own choices. And if you do want something on the heavier side, avocado is a much better choice than nuts! Guest guest
Oh wow. I really wish I had read this earlier. I haven't checked this site in several days. I'm second-day post fast and had been doing citrus, but also consumed *several* handfuls of raw pistachios today and my stomach has been " funny " (very gassy and " rumbly " ) ever since. This makes some sense now. I am going to do citrus for most of tomorrow and a fresh salad, lots of water and hope that will take care of things.
