Guest guest
Well, you can buy glass bottles. Some of my friends have! Elchanan Steven [rawfasting] Saturday, March 19, 2005 10:53 AM rawfood RE: [Raw Food] REcommendations on pure clean water Distilled water. RO will NOT take fluoride out of the water. However, make sure you buy a distiller or you will be drinking some plastic form the container mypinkbow [mypinkbow] Saturday, March 19, 2005 1:46 PM rawfood [Raw Food] REcommendations on pure clean water Does anyone have any recommendations on water filteration systems or how or where to get the cleanest water?? Elchanan wrote: where do you live? (general area, city/rural, etc.) Melissa wrote: Wichita KS _____ Hi Melissa, I don't know the Wichita market at all. In general, you have several choices: - Distilled vs. RO (reverse osmosis) vs. " purified " vs. spring water - Plastic vs. glass The term " purified " means nothing in particular. The term " spring water " allows, by law, up to 50% tap water. Distilled is unique among the approaches to cleaning water. Most other approaches attempt to remove toxins and particulate from the water by various means. In contrast, distillation (typically by steam) removes the water from the toxins. This approach is far more effective, in that the water is much cleaner. However, most commercial water stores use RO or some other purification method, very few use distillation. None of these approaches is " natural " in the slightest, we are merely looking for the best choice among an incomplete set of options. All plastics leach toxins into whatever they contain. For years many believed this was only true for the softer plastic containers. More recent research utterly destroys this notion; plastic is toxic. So glass is better, always, if you can. In some markets, major water delivery services do offer home delivery of 5-gallon containers of distilled water. My first suggestion is that you make a few calls in your market, Arrowhead, Alhambra, whatever exists there. The good news is that home delivery is usually in glass bottles. The bad news is cost. Another more cost effective option is to call local water stores (Pure Water, that sort of thing, see your yellow pages) and ask how they clean their water. Also, some of these stores sell glass 3 or 5 gallon bottles. You could buy and bring home water in plastic, then at home transfer it to the glass. Bit of extra work, but probably much healthier. Guest guest
Melissa, Ed Kasper, www.HappyHerbalist.com sells a water distiller for under $130, probably not including shipping and tax. Why don't you contact him. He more than likely would be a good source to talk to about water as well. Guest guest
Naw, don't do much at all. We're talking about removing hundreds and even thousands of substances ranging in size from visible all the way down to submicron. Guest guest
That is very inexpensive. Just make sure it has sufficient capacity and a good warranty. By sufficient capacity, find out how much it can distill in what period of time, compare that to your needs. Allow a nice margin of error for overstated performance specs. Guest guest
Actually, distilled far and away the cleanest water. If you want to " add back minerals, " then get a few pieces of granite or limestone and put them in the bottom of your water dispenser. That, more or less, resembles what Nature does. Elchanan LiveLifeBetter [livelifebetter] Monday, March 21, 2005 10:25 PM rawfood RE: [Raw Food] REcommendations on pure clean water Correction! Only RO, Distilled and AA (activated alumina medium) filters remove fluoride. The reason why RO is better for you than Distilled is NOT because Distilled leeches minerals from you (that just is not true) it is because it removes the toxins, but with a calcite post filter you can add back the beneficial minerals unlike distilled. Distilled is very acidic (pH) as well as RO, but with RO, like I said, you can raise the water pH back to 7.0. Steven [rawfasting] Saturday, March 19, 2005 10:53 AM rawfood RE: [Raw Food] REcommendations on pure clean water Distilled water.
