Guest guest
There is a widespread but mistaken belief that a bodily deficiency implies a dietary deficiency. In other words, if the body is in short supply of something, this " must " mean we aren't " getting enough of it. " This is largely nonsense and leads people to waste billions of their hard-earned dollars on supplements and other remedies. And calcium provides a wonderful example. Calcium deficiency arises because people eat and live so that calcium is continuously leached from their systems. The RDA is designed to compensate for all this, though it cannot (and obviously does not). High-acid foods, unresolved stress and stress overload, inadequate sleep and rest, deficient physical activity and sunshine, etc. are all contributing factors. It is physically quite impossible for the body to absorb and internalize enough calcium to compensate for such a large drain, no matter what we eat or how many pills we pop. The only solution is to stop the drain in the first place, which you are beginning to do. Once this is done, the RDA is meaningless, ignore it completely. You are fine!!! Look for my larger, upcoming post on this subject matter, tentatively entitled " Deficiency vs. Toxicity. Am getting that regulated with the help of Nutridiary's calculations. One thing I am concerned about...it registers my calcium intake as falling far below the RDA requirements. My thoughts from the reading I've done is that with eating much less protein and only plant-based protein, my body is better able to utilize the calcium that I am taking in... so those RDA numbers may not be completely valid. Is my thinking correct, or do I need to find some additional sources of calcium? Any thoughts are appreciated. Guest guest
Thanks E! You have a great gift for sifting through all the info, studies, theories and getting to the heart of the matter. I was picking up on the idea of calcium leaching from the system due to unhealthy choices...and the RDA being inflated to make up for it and therefore realistically invalid. But you put it all in that nice little nutshell! Guest guest
Oh, in the earlier days of the Internet, a bunch of acronyms sprung up among the techies and quasi-techies who predominated at that time. WRT means " with respect to, " IMHO means " in my humble opinion, " often a euphemism for something otherwise, <tm> means " yeah, right " (well, not literally), and so on. :) Thanks for asking!
