Hello Joanie_ & all - yes you are right - I have never used fabric softener

in my washing machine for months - vinegar works very well - no damage to

any fabrics so far for me anyway and the clothes just smell lovely and fresh

- I use it neat for that.

I also use it on windows and then polish with newspaper although Lori's

lemon works beautifully for this too (I sound like such a good housewife - I

wish it were more true!!) - I had another web site about Vinegar in my

little collection that was better than the one I posted - I will see if I

can find it again.

I also put it in a spray bottle and spray into a room and then close the

door and leave it - it makes fabrics smell like new again.

I have pasted a better vinegar site link below - hope it helps.

Love Lynne

Re: cleansers and shampoos

Am I understandin you right - can I safely use white vinegar in place of a

fabric softener on my clothes - it won't hurt/discolor them or anything?

I really want to know this - because if this is true - wow- it would be

great to stop buyin fabric softener!

Thanks for any feedback.

Hello everyone,

I want to say a big thank you to Lori for the information which will be so

useful to me - I hate the thought of all the chemicals in the house and for

a good while I have been using vinegar as a cleanser too (white vinegar) -

it removes odours (dog urine neat onto the spot after blotting) and also is

a very good fabric softener and static remover in the washing machine - and

also I have visited the web site for household cleaners and also self

cleaning and found it all so good - I am going to digest it all at length.

I am off to buy more lemons!!

Thanks again Lori

Love Lynne

Hi leslie,

I use baking soda to remove soap scum. When we first moved into our

flat it hadn't been properly cleaned in 25 years and the shower door

was caked on soapscum and the baking soda worked wonders. (okay and a

bit of elbow grease)

Hi everyone,

Sorry i have been out of the loop a while but sometime I tend to go

live with my own paper flowers.

I just wanted to share a bit of my experience with natural house

cleaning and personal hygiene. About 3 months ago I started uses all

natural products and no store bought cleaning (for house or self )

products. I have 6 things I use; baking soda, vinager, olive oil,

salt, honey, soap wort.

Personal hygiene:

I make my shampoo by boiling 1 liter of water 1dl of soap wort and 3

tablespoons of honey (for conditioning and thicking) I also add

rosemary for smell and I have dark hair plus I am growing it long.

For extra conditioning once a week I massage my head and hair with

oilve oil before bed and leave it on all night then wash it out. I

also use this as a body wash. I make a small amount (about a week

supply) because it does go bad quickly. If my skin is getting a bit

dry I use Olive oil instead of lotion. and for deodorant I mix a tiny

bit of olive oil and baking soda in my palm and rub in places that

need deodorizing. (if you choose to test this I give this warning:

just like with the rf way of eating it takes the hair abit to get used

to this and it might be a bit icky for a bit until you are used to

it,air is shinier bouncier and I have no split ends on hair that

hasn't been cut in a year but now my h Also there are different herbs

and oils for different types of hair if you want this information just

ask and I will send a list :) )

To wash my face I use baking soda (you may think thisharsh but you

don't need to scrub just gently wipe it over your face then wipe of

with a warm cloth and rinse with cold water ) . and to moisterize I

use oilive oil. I don't wear makeup but I add a little extra olive oil

to my eyelashes to make them seem longer and shinier.

And i use straight baking soda to brush my teeth

House cleaning:

I make a big bucket of water and add vinager to the mixture and clean

everything with this. For hard jobs like soap scum and and stains I

use a little baking soda.

For washing my clothes i use 2 tablespoons of salt in the first wash

cycle (soak?) nothing in the wash cycle and 1\2 cup vinager with a

couple of drops essential oil (ylang ylang or lavander) in the rinse

cycle.

Caring for the Earth is my passion and is the foundation for my

spirituality. It has taken my years to get my cleaning down to these

basics. But I see no reason to spend money on special ecological

products when these 6 products are all needed. Nor do I see any reason

to spend hours making products for personal hygiene.

Love and kisses,

Lu

Awe your welcome Lynne!!!

I used to use vinegar when i first became vegan, but the smell gets

to me, I've found it's a great fabric softener, these days I just

use the ceramic disks in the laundry and no softener, if it really

needs it I will use some papaya enzyme that they sell with the

ceramic disks, some lemon or even some of that soap I have left from

my soap using days. These days I use the ceramic disks less and

less and just use water.

I heard that if you use lemon on a window that gets direct sunlight

it will crack (like on a windshield) not sure if that is true, and I

don't know if using a whole lemon (including the peel) will do that.
