I am now able to eat more in a sitting than I was a couple of months ago. One of the things that helps is blending a few bananas and drinking them like a smoothie. I still mix mine with berries or mangos, etc.; what you were describing was the 'mono-meal' ideal, which is something to aim for, but not essential to experiencng the benefits of the 809/10/10. RE: Expense: So far, it has not been more expensive than eating other ways that I have in the past, and is certainly much less expensive than in the days I also included vitamins and supplements. I tend to focus on seasonal fruits, with bananas as the base, and at this time, I am eating between 1200-1500 calories, depending on my hunger and activity level (which is still fairly low). Bananas, apples, grapes, mangos and some citrus form the main part of my diet right now, with celery being the bulk of greens, with some romaine and other leave lettuces slowly increasing in volume. Once we get back into summer, I expect to eat a lot more melon, berries, stone fruits, etc. Once in a great while some avocado is included, or almonds. Water: if you have enough volume in fruit, you probably won't need to drink a large amount of water. I still drink quite a bit, because I still feel like I want it. But I am also still losing weight, and that may or may not have something to do with that. Peace, Valerie _____ Thanks Valerie for sharing all this. I'd like to add just a couple of thoughts. Previously we've discussed the idea that " transitioning, " as taught by most RF teachers, often emphasized learning recipes and methods that mimic cooked food as raw food. The process you describe above, I call transitioning. It is quite literally relearning to eat. (Note I say " relearning, " because we entered the world with this knowledge, and it is still within each of us. We need only reconnect/rediscover.) Smoothies are indeed a great way to get more food volume in, try banana with dates and/or some celery. Vary the proportions until you find versions you prefer. And remember to CHEW your smoothie. I mean literally, take a bit of time to hold it in your mouth and chew a bit before you swallow. This allows your mouth chemistry to respond to the content of the smoothie (secrete saliva/ptyalin), and the mechanical action also signals your brain and enteric (abdominal) nervous system that food is on the way. COST OF PRODUCE: When I realize what I used to spend on doctors, alternative practitioners, meds and " remedies, " restaurants, I cannot imagine ever spending as much on the finest produce on the planet. And when I consider all the time I lost in the past due to illness, tiredness, and emotional and other forms of dysfunction, I perceive my food as a vital investment in the fundamental infrastructure of my life, not as a cost at all. The best FOR me makes the best me, it's that simple. This change in perception has been most helpful to me. WATER: As long as your body continues to release brine (salt stored from past consumption), you will likely continue to require elevated water consumption. Thereafter, on a true 80/10/10 program, you will likely require much less water, subject to your activity level, environment (temperature, for example), emotional states, and other factors. Consumption of dehydrated foods always increases the body's requirement for water. Guest guest
Thanks for this, Elchanan; it reminded me of all the things I don't spend money on as well. There are other areas of my discretionary budget that now goes toward supporting purchase of good foods. As an example, I am buying few books, using the library more, to free up some extra money; walking more, driving less, good for me and for the budget; etc. Once you start thinking about it, many aspects of life begin to be affected (for the good!) by default. I'm liking this more and more! Guest guest
Thanks Valerie. Now you've made me remember one more -- all those soaps, shampoos, conditioners, laundry products, cleaning products, etc., probably a thousand dollars annually or more!
