[Raw Food] Inflammation and disease

I read this interesting article at a site called Woman to Woman.

While I don't agree with everything they recommend, the information on

how inflammation is related to chronic and life threatening illnesses

was very informative. And while they don't make the connection to

cooked foods, I see a direct correlation with what we have discussed

here about cooked foods being treated like a toxin in the body and

triggering the inflammatory response.

Oh dear, I really feel a strong need to respond to this article. This

represents medical model thinking at its absolute worst, both with respect

to western/allopathic and eastern/Chinese medicine -- all forms of

" medicine " (other than for trauma). The following brief excerpt from the

article highlights, in a sense, the ENTIRE problem with ALL " medicine: "

Acute inflammation that ebbs and flows as needed signifies

a well-balanced immune system. But symptoms of inflammation

that don't recede tell you that your immune system switch is stuck on.

It's poised on high alert - even when you aren't in imminent danger.

In some cases, what started as a healthy mechanism, like building scar

tissue or swelling, just won't shut off.

Oy! The immune system switch is not stuck on anything. There is no immune

system. (If you think there is, tell me where to find it!) There is no

" switch. " Nothing is stuck.

Note the underlying presumption here, that the body is inherently prone to

breaking down, becoming confused, losing its way, and that we need health

priests (in the guise of doctors) to " heal " or " cure " us. We may cure bacon,

but the body heals itself.

The author of this article, and the entire medical world, apparently don't

even stop for a moment to consider that chronic inflammation is nothing more

than a 24x7 effort by the body to respond to and deal with conditions. The

symptom is ALWAYS the body's brilliant response to conditions, it is NEVER

the problem!!!

Whenever someone has any form of chronic dysfunction, then we need to

resolve the cause, not attack the symptoms. Yes, symptoms are visible, and

therefore they are easy to diagnose. Because of this, symptoms offer an

endless source of enrichment for those who would sell treatments, remedies,

cures, pills, and potions. But attacking the symptom is, first, last, and

always, attacking your own body's brilliant attempt to respond to conditions

WE created via the acts and concoctions of our less-intelligent forebrain

(the one with which we are so enamored).

So please, just ignore ALL writings such as this, trust Nature, trust your

own body, commune with others who do the same, abandon all notions of

disease and breakdown, and chart a course toward health.

Einstein once said that the problem we create on a given level of thinking

cannot be solved on that level of thinking. The health, environmental,

traffic, etc. problems we create as a society, via out political, economic,

and lifestyle choices, cannot be remedied by tweaking those choices. The

solutions lie in stepping completely away, developing a whole new

metaperception, and starting again with a completely different perspective

and approach.

In the realm of health, this means abandoning all science that would

perceive our organism as defective in Nature and that would have us at war

with Nature, and turning instead back toward understanding and living in

harmony with Nature.

Just live healthfully, and your system will create health for you. That

really IS all there is to it! And it opens for each of us a whole new world

called life!

Best to all,

Elchanan

E,

I saw it more as a confirmation that when the body is constantly

infused with substances it must reject (cooked, processed, dead food)

it would produce this inflamation response- as you said " chronic

inflammation is nothing more than a 24x7 effort by the body to

respond to and deal with conditions. " Conditions we initiate with our

eating and lifestyle practices and which result in symptoms called

disease by the medical world.

So even though much of the thinking was not in harmony with what I

believe about the body, THAT particular bit seemed to be at least a

step in th right direction.

Although, I guess one tiny step in a journey of a thousand miles is

not much progress. Maybe I should not hope for a " turn for the

better " when it comes to medical practices, but I can't stop hoping

that some day the truth will out... and the medical community will

have to acknowledge, respect and come into harmony with the laws of

nature.

Too nieve I guess :)Tess

Hi Debbie,

I understand your hopeful/optimistic perception, and I truly hope you are

correct. Alas, though, I am doubtful. The paragraph I quoted was very clear

in saying that the chronic inflammation is a breakdown of the body, and this

is not only false, it is very misleading and encourages people to poison

themselves further. Still, I agree that we should be on the lookout for

every glimmer of hope out there!
