Guest guest
I tried that Elchanan, but I couldn't get it to work. I tried to enter a salad I had and one of the ingredients, which I had to laboriously enter one by one, was brocolli. They did not have it in their data base. Then I had to fill out some long thing about how much of each nutrient it contained, which I didn't know. And that was only for one ingredient of one thing I ate that day. Maybe I'm missing something, but it was way too hard. I'd love to be able to do it and see what the breakdown is for what I'm eating. But so far I am hopelessly failed at this. Guest guest
Lane's definition of a handful... rawfood [rawfood ] On Behalf Of lane lynn Monday, April 18, 2005 4:24 AM rawfood Re: [Raw Food] What I ate today. Hello. I think you are responding to my post so I will answer. When I say a handful of kale leaves, that is about 4- 6 of the small kind of kale leaves. I think if I had that kind of kale with huge enormous leaves, I would probably use just one. At any rate I seem to have landed at a place where my smoothies are just slightly green, or not quite green yet but have some colour change, but at the same time you cannot taste the greens. I hope this helps, Lane (By the way, I wasn't using anything aproximating a 'normal " handful, rather using the word to describe what I was doing. Any amount is OK. It's just how you like the taste.) - Gypsi at www.aromaticwings.com rawfood Sunday, April 17, 2005 12:05 PM Re: [Raw Food] What I ate today. may I ask a question about the kale?? I have seen two types of kale so far in my quest for eating better. One being very very dark green with small leaves about 10-12 inches in length total.at maturity... And the second is what I have now which is a longer larger stemed leaf, slightly grayer in color... lighter green. Now it is my understanding that we want the darkest greens right?? so the first type would be better for you vitamin wise..am I correct in this thinking.? Also when one says " handfule of kale leaves " how many stems is this?? when I make a juice or smoothie I am using four to five depending on size sometimes depending on if I need more greens ... but what is a " normal handfull " ? Guest guest
Oh, looks like we may have to provide some instructions to make it a bit easier. Nutridiary does have all the features you could not find, but there can be a bit of a learning curve at first. Well worth it, though. I'll look into this, no promises at this time. Guest guest
Perhaps this is a spelling issue. Try entering broccoli instead of brocolli. Also, for anything that Nutridiary doesn't have in their list, try www.calorieking.com <http://www.calorieking.com/> . They have more foods in their database and you can use those nutrition values to import into Nutridiary. -Poppy rawfood [rawfood ] On Behalf Of lane lynn Monday, April 18, 2005 4:35 AM rawfood Re: [Raw Food] What I ate today. * I tried that Elchanan, but I couldn't get it to work. Guest guest
thanks Poppy. I definitely have spelling issues, but as I recall, I tried spelling it all ways and even looked it up. I'll try again just to be sure. Lane - Poppy Davis rawfood Monday, April 18, 2005 12:40 PM RE: [Raw Food] What I ate today. Perhaps this is a spelling issue. I definitely have spelling issues, but as I recall, I tried spelling it all ways and even looked it up. I'll try again just to be sure. Lane ------ Lane, I've been using Nutridiary for just over a month officialy now, and I've gotten quite good at it....I'd be happy to share such knowledge with you. Any Monday, Wed, or Friday evening after 9pm (free cell minutes for me), I'd be happy to call you and walk you through it (if you're phone line and computer line are separate....) if you want to reply in private, and my email isn't showing up, it's rjf2 at tampabay(dot)rr(dot)com, replacing the word at with the sign for at, and the dots in parentheses with regular dots, and then smushing it all together. (If more people are interested, I can easily put some " screen shots " together, and email them to you, or setup an IRC chatroom, to hold a mini-online training session...) To answer your " specific " query, do this: once at he Nutridiary site: click on the tab that says " FOODS " in the second drop-down box, that says " ALL FOOD GROUPS " , click on the black arrow at the right of the box, and scroll down to where it says " Vegetable and vegetable products " (not actually necessary, and it simplifies the search and the resultant number of items we have to look through...)and highlight/select that choice. Now go to the top empty boxline, next to Description: and type in: " Broc " (with no quotes...) and then click on the " Find Food " bar just to the right of the box you just put " Broc " in (and just use " Broc " so we don't have to worry about spelling! ;=) the result you want will now be the 12th item in a list of 13 items; 2nd from the bottom, entitled " Brocolli, Raw " . Hope this helps. and it's even more fun to be searching, and eating from, the " Fruit and fruit juices " section! have fun. Bob
