Guest guest
Hi, folks, just thought I would bounce a question off this group: Do any of you sleep outside on a regular basis? I remember both reading a book and listening to a presentation by Victoria Boutenko in which she talked about the family arranging things with their home in such a way that they were able to sleep outside most of the year. This has intrigued me; my husband and I camp several times a year, including our two week vacation in the fall, when we go to the upper peninsula of Michigan (absolutely Paradise that time of year), and I never sleep better than when we are in the camper (it's a pop-up, basically a tent on wheels ). We live in a fairly quiet suburban area, and I've been toying with the idea of setting up a screen tent in the back yard for sleeping during the spring through fall seasons. I'm not sure how we would go about it, using cots, or setting up some kind of platform, but screening in the patio area appears to be prohibitive (ranging from 8 to 10 thousand dollars); and a $100 dollar screen tent is much more doable. My husband is not even close to being convinced that this would be a good thing, but I'm working on it. Anyone here doing anything like this? I should mention that we live in south central PA, and the weather would allow for this from April through November (excepting major rain days). Thanks for any input...Valerie
Guest guest
Hi Val, Though my husband and I haven't slept outside yet, we were however, after reading the books by the Boutenko's and a two day seminar convienced to toss out our conventional bed and build a platform bed. I can tell you that there are no fitted sheets available to fit it and rather than the TV putting us to sleep at night, it's been the bed. For nearly two years now we've had nothing but really G O O D sleeping. Creaky joints and stiff backs are a thing of the past. Maybe I'll post the before, during and after building the bed pics some day. Next, how to sleep on the deck or patio while keeping out our backyard wildlife who manages to come either over or through the fence. Guest guest
Can you describe your platform bed? I am wondering if it is like something I had made for myself several years ago. My 'home away from home' was a Cistercian monastery in Western New York, and all the beds were simple mattresses on top of a plain wooden 'table'. They were great for my back, and a carpenter friend of mine made one for me that I used until I married my husband Jim. I just can't imagine that kind of bed working in a queen size version. My bed is still fairly firm (we have plywood in between the mattress and box spring) but it does not compare to the abbey bed. I've also wondered about using a futon on the floor. (It makes it a lot harder to get up, though; our knees don't work the way they used to! LOL) Peace, Valerie " E. Guest guest
I guess that would include me! ) well, kinda... I've been living and traveling around the country in a motorhome since November '04. The walls are fairly thin, so it's certainly not the same as living in a house, but not quite a tent either. Since it has been plenty warm enough where I've visited, I leave the windows open all the time, especially at night, as I get pretty warm when sleeping. I've also noticed that it helps my dream and sleep quality when I'm cooler, rather than warmer, so the fresh air is always nice. I like this much better than sleeping in big, stuffy house! Guest guest
That sounds pretty nice! We hope to do something similar when we retire, but that is a good 10+ years away..... jeannie_rose_13 <jeannie_rose_13 wrote:I guess that would include me! ) well, kinda...
