Hi everyone,

Last week I posted about reaching 1 month raw again. Now, I'm posting about

cooked food.

This weekend we went to visit my mother for her 87th birthday. It was to be

a short visit as we had a pretty busy weekend. While my mom knows I'm vegan

(I've been vegetarian since 1982 and vegan since 1993), I've never told her

about raw foods. We don't live close enough to visit more than about once a

month and it's never come up in conversation. When we visit, my mom always has

lots of fruit in her home (she loves fruit as much as I do) and I eat that and

it just works.

This weekend, as my husband and kids and I prepared to leave, she looked at

me and asked us to stay longer and she'd buy dinner at our favorite Chinese

food restaurant. The look of longing on my mother's face made me feel for her.

As I said, she's 87 and I know she'd like to see more of us. I also knew she

was trying to be nice (offering our favorite, rather expensive, restaurant -

knowing we'd have trouble affording it ourselves right now), not knowing my raw

lifestyle.

I struggled for a few moments internally with my decision. I did not want to

give up all the health gains I'd made and I wanted give my mom what the look

on her face told me she needed. I made the decision that my need to share a

meal and more time with her was greater at that moment than my need to stay

raw.

So, we (and I) did stay and eat Chinese food together. The next day we took

my children to Great America amusement park to play and I was unable to stay

raw after the previous night's cooked food.

Today, I'm raw again. I am feeling the effects though I my weekend. My

mouth has sores inside. My " bad " big toe that was finally hurting much less is

hurting painfully again. My neck is stiff and sore again. My back is weaker.

My stomach hurts and my bowels are off. My

DH and I both noticed we had no hunger today until well into the afternoon.

We are both grateful to be eating raw again today.

I am looking forward to continuing with raw, getting back on track, and

feeling good again.

Hi Carolyn!

welcome back..and thanks for sharing.

I empathize with your dilemma.

others (elchanan?) have posted on the board a strategy that has

assisted me: to treat eating out as a " social " event, not necessarily

a " nutrition " event; meaning, eat ahead of time, and take a few

things with you to eat there. If not a made a big deal of,

frequently you can just eat raw, or eat little, and still be a part

of the gathering.

all the best,

Bob

That works for me as well, Bob....it was hard at first, but getting easier as I

go along.

Hi Bob and Valerie,

The same strategy is the one I always use, even this weekend! I had

eaten my raw foods ahead of time and I brought along enough raw foods

to last the weekend. But, my mother's look of great need made me

want to give to her what she asked for on her birthday.

The next day at the amusement park, I started out raw, carried in all

my own food (plus extra to share), only to have all the children in

our group gather around me and eat ALL my fruit in about 5 minutes!

I can't eat in front of children and say no when they ask for some,

so I do always bring enough to share, but my goodness, they just

inhaled it all!

I was 100% raw yesterday and will continue on. I woke in the middle

of the night last night feeling " spacey " and will a terrific

headache. This morning I still have the headache and spacey feeling -

I'm looking forward to feeling well again!
