Guest guest
" How to Create 1-Million Raw Food Dressings " Here's an email question from one of my members of http://HowToGoRaw.com. Hi Roger .. So I am wondering, what would one use as salad dressings if olive oil or flax oil and nuts and seeds are not desirable? Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated Thank you much xxxJoyce Hi Joyce, (Dressing Recipes Included Below) The first thought that comes to mind is why do we even need a dressing? Why does everyone assume a salad must have a dressing on it? No animals ever make a salad dressing. A dressing is a way to change the flavor of something, but at the same time it masks the flavor of the food. I remember I used to hate salads until I found a dressing I liked. But then I was only eating it for the toxic Seven Seas dressing I loved. That being said, I like dressings as well. But we should try to eat some salads with no dressing whatsoever and learn to appreciate the flavor of romaine lettuce and plain tomatoes, cucumbers, celery, etc. Now when it comes to me, I almost never make myself a salad, instead I make a raw soup or a blended salad. You don't need a dressing for a soup, so I usually don't make dressings. I make raw soups with my blender because that way I don't have to make a dressing as well. I also do this because it takes me almost an hour to eat a big salad and it takes me ten minutes or so to eat a very large raw soup. I also tend to eat much more in the way of greens if I make them as soups instead of salads. I also believe that blending may free up more of the nutrients, than what we can release by just chewing alone. I have good success using blended salads and I know that hygienists have been using them for years with better results than just eating a plain salad. This is in terms of nutrient absorption. But I do know a formula that you can use to create hundreds to even thousands of different kinds of dressing recipes. A salad provides that crunchy texture that many people crave. So if making a salad dressing will encourage you to eat more salads, then go for it. And by the way, you can use nuts, seeds and avocados in your dressings. The key is to keep your total daily fat intake to at least 15% or less of total calories coming from fat. Some days can be higher if on a weekly basis you keep to that average. For people with certain severe health problems, 10% or less of calories coming from fat is better. I don't however recommend the frequent use of oils. Whole foods are almost always better for you to consume. Oil is always a highly refined food. *~*~* Create Your Own Dressing Formula *~*~*~* I learned this from Dr. Douglas Graham when I was one of the speakers at his and David Klein's Raw Passion event in Philadelphia. The first thing you need to know is that you can combine citrus fruits with fatty foods in your dinner meal. Personally, I don't like to do this too much, but will on occasion. However, there are hundreds of no-fat dressings you can make as well. Unfortunately, I don't remember all the details of Dr. Graham's dressing recipe technique, but you will get the basic idea. Or you can just get Dr. Graham's Simply Delicious Recipes on video. Here's a description of what is on the video. Dr. Graham has done it again. Coupled with his long time friend, Dr. Tim Trader, Dr. Graham presents a huge contingent of beautiful, fast, simple and easy dishes at the Jamaica 2000 Raw Food Culinary Showcase. From sauces, spreads, dips, fondues, dressings, soups, and pates to desserts, Dr. Graham covers it all. All raw, properly combined, whole foods recipes. Extra bonus footage: Dr. Graham's good friend, Aris Latham, raw food chef and artist also does a beautiful food demo. http://tinyurl.com/dge4y Go to the link above to get the video. *~*~*~* Dressings with Fat *~*~*~* Here are some simple dressing ideas. Combine citrus or acidic fruit with ground or powdered nuts or seeds. You can grind flax, sunflower seeds, almonds etc. in a coffee grinder or a Vitamix blender. By the way, you can use a Vitamix for making all sorts of quick and nutritious raw recipes. To get a good deal on one, I provide you with the link below this paragraph. I use my blender every day. It's much more versatile than a juicer (plus you get the complete nutrients by using the whole food and not just its juice) and it's very quick to clean and last for years. http://tinyurl.com/9paw4 So let's see, you can blend orange and sunflower seeds in the Vitamix, or raspberries with almonds, or lemon and avocado. You can use pineapple, grapefruit, kiwi or any other acidic fruit blended with any powdered fatty food or just use avocado. There you have it. These are quick and simple dressings. Just use your imagination. This will give you the more traditional oil and vinegar taste in a dressing. Lemon or lime makes a good substitute for vinegar. For the best health results, I'd stay away from vinegar as well, including raw apple cider vinegar. Regardless of what book touts the amazing benefits of apple cider vinegar. I used to believe that stuff too. But vinegar in any form can cause some severe health problems. *~*~*~* No-Fat Dressings *~*~*~* I love this one. Just grab a handful of raspberries, or blackberries or blueberries and just squeeze them and then put on top of your salad. That's got to be the quickest dressing recipe on the planet. Or squeeze a handful of blackberries and raspberries and you have another dressing. You can combine tomatoes, celery and cucumbers for a dressing base. Experiment with other vegetables as well. Then you can add any herb like cilantro, parsley, tarragon, etc. You can add any spice that you fancy as well. You can do this to the basic recipe ideas I mentioned before that had fat in them, or you can just try to keep it simple. The choice is yours, the possibilities for dressing combinations are endless. I don't guarantee that every dressing recipe will come out tasting great, but that is part of the fun of making them. Eventually you'll have a few good dressing recipes that you use repeatedly. At Doug's presentation we figured with all the different food types you could add to a dressing like acidic fruits, fatty foods (don't forget coconut), vegetables, herbs and spices that you could make over one million different dressings. You could conceivably try a new dressing every day for the rest of your life. I hope you enjoy these dressings. Now that I wrote this article, I'm going to start creating more of my own dressings. Dressings can be used as dips and soups as well. To Your Radiant Health, Happiness and Fitness, Roger Haeske " Raw Recipes for Men and Other People who Hate to Cook.
