Guest guest
Hi, I'm new to posting here although I read sometimes (I have to admit I think some of the members here are pretty loony!!)... Anyway, I have a question: Why do you all think it is important to be 100 percent raw? Or are some of you only a certain percentage raw? I know raw food is really healthy and all Americans should eat more of it but this whole " ONE HUNDRED PERCENT " thing, well, to me , it smacks of orthorexia (google orthorexia- some pretty interesting stuff). I find I feel GREAT as I add more raw foods but when I start starving myself and never eating bits of other things...I feel like crap. And I don't know anyone who honest to god feels good on 100 percenr raw foods -- I know people who THINK they feel good, but they look like hell. Why not be reasonable and just try to eat a lot of raw foods but not get all crazed about it? Kristen
Guest guest
Kristen, I totally agree with you. I'm about 80% raw. I doubt that I will ever be 100% raw. I have a life. sometimes I go out to a restaurant with friends and eat cooked vegan food. There are a number of studies that suggest that cooking enhances the availability of certain nutrients in food, such as tomatoes and broccoli. So sometimes I eat them raw, and other times I eat them lightly cooked. Life is too short to stress over such things. I love cooked beans and sometimes cooked quinoa and millet. I know that I am eating better than about 99% of other Americans. I'm not going to get stressed out if I eat lightly steamed broccoli or cooked vegetable soup. It's all a matter of balance to me. I think that if you're diet is stressing you out, the stress is harming you more than the good of the diet. I've quit beating myself up when I stepped back and realized that in the last 3 years I've probably eaten more raw fruits and veggies than I have in my whole life. I never expect to make it on the cover of " Raw Food Magazine " and to be honest with everyone, I've never wanted to. This has been a " win-win " situation for me no matter how bad I fail to maintain a 100% raw lifestyle. I still kick ass if I'm only 70% or 80% or even 50% and the rest Vegan etc. Just my $0.02 Namaste http://billschoolcraft.com
Guest guest
I'm 100% raw because that's the best I can do with food spiritually. It's a mental thing for me and if I was less than 100%, I'd hardly eat any of it. It's mostly a moral issue for me, although I see raw vegan as the healthiest diet physically too. For now I look as healthy as I feel, mentally and physically, and I expect to stay that way. rawfood , " kmdaven " <kmdaven> wrote: > Hi, I'm new to posting here although I read sometimes (I have to admit > I think some of the members here are pretty loony!!)... > > Anyway, I have a question: Why do you all think it is important to be > 100 percent raw? Guest guest
Kristen~ I think you will find that there are *all sorts* of RFers on this list! I know that I have been " experimenting " with raw for several years now & I am not 100% raw. But I do agree with Victoria Boutenko (check out her stuff at www.rawfamily.com) when she talks about cooked food " addiction " and the necessity of being 100% in order to achieve the full bennies of being raw. I notice that when I am eating cooked vegan food in small amounts throughout the day, I do have more cravings for cooked vegan food & struggle with those feelings throughout the day. The times I have managed to stay as raw as possible, I feel better, have more energy, less cravings, simply more peace within. I don't think I can possibly get my nutrient requirements met by raw food when I am eating cooked as well. Also, my digestion really suffers when I include cooked food in my diet. Also, the raw food doesn't taste as delicious & is not as satisfying when I am eating cooked. (I REALLY notice that raw food is incredibly delicious when I don't eat *any* cooked!) All-in-all, I have had waaaaaaaaaaay more success with this lifestyle when I have avoided all cooked food. Like I say, I have *struggled* with this lifestyle for years. This is simply my experience with it. Leslie

Out of all the animals that live on this planet we are the only ones that cook our food you can have great health without cooking if you just like cooked food go ahead and have some for a treat but don't say you must eat it for good health That is the way I view things. I don't do %100 raw currently because I am giving in the cravings... I wake up and it is easy to be raw all day, but come evening, I feel like I need to have something filling. That usually means cooked food such as rice, oatmeal, etc. I've expiereinced in the past a loss of cravings after being raw for a week or so. My wife and I plan to fast for 1-2 days then go %100 for 10 days and see if this lets me get back into the %100 raw groove.
Guest guest
I don't need to cook food. Good point about the animals. There's no way we need to hunt or trap an animal for good health. Failure in being 100% raw comes from a lack of spirituality imho. The only way I can stay 100% raw is by knowing I'm not doing my own will. By my own accord it would be very easy to just say do whatever. " It's all good " as the saying goes these days. Well, it's not all good but I can't keep that focus unless I let God help me. Left to my own devices it would be easy to rationalize going back and forth in this diet. I don't want to go back and forth on this diet for the rest of my life. There's something mentally to be gained and enjoyed by staying 100% raw for a long time. Rich rawfood , " John de la Garza " <john@j...> wrote: > I look at things from the other side.
