Guest guest
hello, everyone. I am curious to know how people feel about the use of dehydrators. or more specifically, how folks " get along " WITHOUT one. I have lots of raw receipe books, however there seems to be an emphasis on using the dehydrator. I bought one at walmart, but it was completely useless. i'd love to hear from those who live the raw lifestyle without a dehydrator. and I'd also like to hear about which dehydrators are recommeded from those who do use them. Just to warn everyone, i have LOTS of questions; I'll probably be posting quite a bit with questions regarding RAW 101;)... I figure there's only so much you can get from a book. And I've come across some problems in trying to make raw items, such as rejuvalac, seed cheeses and dehydration. Thank you much Isabella
Guest guest
HI Isabella! > I am curious to know how people feel about the use of dehydrators. or > more specifically, how folks " get along " WITHOUT one. I own one, and I'm getting along fine without it. I may use it again...see below.. I have lots of > raw receipe books, however there seems to be an emphasis on using the > dehydrator. I see a dehydrator as a sub-optimal choice: it removes most of the water, and may cause other changes. I think Elchanan has stated it something like this: " ...if it's dehydrated, it's dehydrating in the body.... " and I'd also like to hear about which dehydrators are > recommeded from those who do use them. I'll leave that to others; mine is much older, and very simple... I have seen a couple of sites that compare them also. > > Just to warn everyone, i have LOTS of questions; I'll probably be > posting quite a bit with questions regarding RAW 101;) all questions welcome, and I suggest that you go back about 1,000 posts and do a search on your topic question; you may find lots of answers already here... .... I figure > there's only so much you can get from a book. agree.. And I've come across > some problems in trying to make raw items, such as rejuvalac, seed > cheeses and dehydration. there are many different schools of thought on Raw. the first two that you mention are primarily from the Dr. Ann Wigmore's Hippocrates Health Institute. When I was into rejuvelac, I found the recipes through Google internet searches....and I think I've posted those results here earlier. > > Thank you much you're welcome..welcome to the group, and good luck! Thank you much Isabella _____ The top two nutrients we need are oxygen and water -- far more of either of these than all other nutrients combined. Dehydrating removes both of these nutrients. Further, dehydrating removes the solution medium (water) holding most of the minerals, vitamins, etc. So these come out of solution and basically turn into rock, like the ring on a pot when you boil food. This dramatically reduces the bioavailability of all such materials. Dehydrating forces your body to provide the water you have removed, as virtually all digestion and assimilation from the digestive system occur using water as a physical and biochemical medium. This results in systemwide dehydration, at least to some degree. So dehydrate for entertainment, but not for health. Better yet, save your money, buy a digital food scale instead, and learn first-hand how much you actually need to eat, and of what foods!!! More on that in some upcoming posts.... Guest guest
Thanks for this portion, especially, Elchanan; I was aware of the other points you had mentioned, but don't remember encountering this particular information. Guest guest
Hi Heidi You might want to check out the ebooks at thegardendiet.com. You pay like $20 and you can download all six of them. Lots of good information. Tons of recipes, none of them made with dehydrators. Just fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds. swing --- Heidi MacDonald <snow_in_the_moon_light wrote: > hello > i only use a dehydrator a few times a month. i > usally eat tones of fresh greens and freesh fruit. > it is not a daily thing you are or must live by > > > izdabe <izdabe wrote: > hello, everyone. > > I am curious to know how people feel about the use > of dehydrators. or > more specifically, how folks " get along " WITHOUT > one. Guest guest
I missed Isabella's original post, so hadn't responded prior. When I first began to be raw, I loved using the dehydrator. Cookies, crackers, chips, dehydrating soaked nuts, fruits and fruit leathers, tomatoes, etc. When I had a winning ticket at a raffle, I ended up with a second dehydrator -- and I was able to keep them both going. Now one is in storage and the second one is barely used -- and then it's usually used to melt my coconut butter. I still like raw crackers to dip in guacamole along with my cucumber chips. It just doesn't get used like it used to ... Annette (Washington State)
