Guest guest
Plantains can be eaten raw! I eat them all the time. You just have to wait (sometimes a week or 2) for them to get really, really ripe. They are good to eat when the skin becomes black, and the fruit inside is nice and soft (it needs to be extremely soft!) I don't like regular bananas, but I love plantains. They have a different taste, and a different texture than regular bananas. They only time they " need " to be cooked to eat is when they are hard and unripe. Guest guest
Hey Guys, I'm from the Dominican Republic and plantains is a staple in our diet. There are 2 types of plantains. There are green ones which must be cooked. You don't want to eat those raw. The green plantain might be what you are referring to, Bob. However, once the green plantains have ripened, they turn yellow. The yellow plantains are very sweet and I often eat them raw. I also dehydrate them and take them to work with me as a snack. Donna, you probably had the yellow plantains in your smoothy. Hope this helps! Guest guest
Hi Ariana, My first plantain was a yellow one. All subsequent plantains were black (very ripe). I find it very filling to eat just one, probably because they are larger than the average banana. I once knew someone from Jamaica who told me that plantains were a stable of their diet and wanted to make a native dish for me but that never happened.
