Guest guest
Denise we3deeves Tuesday, May 31, 2005 10:53 PM Subject: Re: [Raw Food] Natural Hygiene I've been pouring over the International Natural Hygiene Society's website all night (_http://inhs.ms11.net/present.html_ (http://inhs.ms11.net/present.html) ) hope that's the right link and I'm seeing quite a few differences in what they are saying and what is being said here (in regard to a Natural Hygiene diet - not the other elements). They even won't promote ONE diet because they say there is so much debate even among the hygienic scientists. They do say, however, that there does seem to be legitimate evidence that an all fruit diet (long term) leads to problems and deficiencies?? They also say that you can be a natural hygienist eating raw fruits & veggies AND eggs and raw dairy! There's a chart that shows the different 'NH diets'...and a very interesting section on 'What is the optimal raw diet' or something to that effect. They say that natural hygienists are more concerned with HEALTH rather than the ethics of vegetarianism (in regards to the eating of wild fish and eggs)....And that some famous hygienists promoted this way of eating after doing research w/feeding mice? It's very interesting to read the findings of that research! Thoughts??? ___ Here's the homepage. _INHS International Natural Hygiene Society - honoring Dr. Herbert Shelton_ (http://inhs.ms11.net/index.html) ___ Okay...now from reading the info on the International Natural Hygiene Society web page, I see that there are several different ideas (in fact a great debate that's apparently gone on for some time) from Natural Hygienist themselves on what, exactly, constitutes an optimal raw diet. I thought from the way it was talked about here, that frugavore/8-1-1 = N.H. period My mistake! ~denise _____ Hi Denise, You are absolutely correct. Natural Hygiene refers to a broad collection of opinions about achieving health in ways that are in harmony with Nature. So the term encompasses a number of approaches to nutrition and other health factors. NH is not any particular approach to eating/food, but rather just that which is " in harmony with Nature. " Of course, that may mean very different things to various people. Most but not all have been vegetarian, many have been vegan, and frankly very few have advocated 100% raw food. Also, many of them are as fearful of fruit as the practitioner population at large, largely because of unfounded fears about sugar. (Though the cite other reasons, this one is usually primary.) For this reason, I do not associate myself closely with the term " Natural Hygiene, " and you will hardly ever see me use the term in my writings. Several years ago, there was a " changing of the guard. " At that time, several NH teachers, practitioners, leaders went off and formed their own organization, Healthful Living International (HLI). Among these people are Dr. Doug Graham, Dr. Virginia Vetrano, Dr. Tim Trader, Dave Klein (publisher of Living Nutrition magazine). They have held several small but successful symposia, but they lack leadership, resources, etc. Also, Dave and HLI in some arrangement run the annual RawStock events, which have been a great success. 80/10/10 is a specific approach to diet ... raw, vegan, high-oxygen, high-water, high-fruit, low-fat, low-protein ... and to creating health in a larger sense. Dr. Doug Graham created this approach a number of years ago, and I to much of what he teaches. I intend to say much more about that in an upcoming post tentatively entitled " Why 80/10/10? A personal perspective. " Best to all, Elchanan -- ------------------------ [ SECURITY NOTICE ] ------------------------ rawfood , rawschool .
