Does anyone have any safety information on leaving the Excalibur Dehydrator on

unattended or away from home?

I came home tonight and my housemate had turned it off and left a note saying he

did not want to burn the house down.

It may have been off for three hours, what is the safety of the food,? I am

very cautious.

I felt that if a dehydrator is meant to be on hours apon hours it would be fine

to be away.

I spent hours preparing the food and I hate waste of money and time.

At this time I have resumed dehydration.

Thanks,

Catherine

P.S. I did look on line for safety info and have found nothing other than the

new 3000 series having a timer. and was ok to leave unattended.

its totally fine to leave the dehydrator on while you are gone. about

the food, it can go bad if still moist for sure, probably ok up to 4

hrs.

Nothing " official " , but we have had an Excalibur (in fact we have 3) and pretty

much on or two are running almost constantly filled with nuts and it's been over

10 years. Haven't burned the house down, but sure keeps the room warm in the

winter!

Thanks for the input.

I talked to the roomies this morning, they turned it off around 5:30 so it was

off for 41/2 hours, with an 1/2 hour or so cool time I think they might be

alright (thanks Yashpal). I took a bite this morning when turning them over and

no bad reactions yet:)

I explained to them this is not your regular dehydrator and is meant to be on 24

hr a day.

I felt a little better when the housemate called himself " a litttle anal

retentive " , lol
