Guest guest
Raw Food Diet - Cure for Weight Loss and Eating Disorders by admin on Tue, 2007-09-18 Raw food diet is one of the easiest way to remove fat from diet. Easiest way to lose weight. Probably the best way to approach eating disorders, says Gary Novak. A raw food diet creates major improvements in health. The reasons are not known, but the experience is unmistakable. Weight normalizes, which generally means a reduction in fat. At the same time, a person feels extremely energized. It's as if energy would rather be burned up than converted to fat. There seems to be a major shift in physiology which makes one feel highly energized from raw food. I can only theorize why this occurs. It is quite likely that a large part of cooked food can only go into fat production, because heat and acid alter it making it unmetabolizable in other complex processes. By contrast, raw food should break down into components which can be directly metabolized in a variety of cells. Health gets so refined and perfected with a raw food diet that a person notices effects of all types. The result is an important source of information about nutrition and quality of food. Guest guest
The author of this piece evidently does not realize that all raw food diets are not the same. I suspect that most new raw fooders actually get MORE of their calories from fat in percentage terms than they were before they went raw. This was the conclusion of Dr. Doug Graham, who found that when he questioned raw fooders in detail about their diets, they were averaging something like 65% of their calories from fat, as opposed to the 10% or less he recommends. It doesn’t take many nuts, seeds, avocados and oils to push you past 10%. I experienced problems on high fat raw, and I know many others who have, too. Guest guest
" I'm curious about what kinds of problem a person could experience with a high fat diet and would appreciate it if you would share your experience about this. " Oh I'm just taking a wild guess here, but I think diabetes would be one, psoriasis another, obesity yet one more. Even on raw if you are eating too much fat it is in your bloodstream and slows down the elimination process. I'm thinking this must be a trick question because I know Roger knows the answer to this one. Shari
Guest guest
Hi Shari, I know that some health authorities say a high fat diet isn't good for you, and at the same time others say that under some circumstances it isn't a problem. The problems they describe with a high fat diet tend to be gradual long-term issues which would be difficult to notice in the short-term by just observing yourself. I hadn't heard before that there are some obvious short-term problems with a high fat diet, the kind where you switch your diet and you obviously are doing worse. So I was curious about what these people, who had problems with a raw high fat diet, had experienced. The standard recommendation for hypoglycemic people is for them to make sure they get concentrated protein and go easy on the carbohydrates/sugar. The only concentrated sources of digestible raw vegetable protein are nuts and seeds, which have medium to high levels of fat. So if you are hypoglycemic (like me), raw, and vegan, you also end up with a lot of fat in your diet. So because of the lack of agreement about high fat diets, and the complications of being hypoglycemic on a raw vegan diet, I keep wondering about this, and so was curious about first hand information about how a raw high fat diet didn't work out for people. " Hi Roger, Some of the symptoms I experience when I eat too much fat are lethargy, mood swings, heavy limbs, anxiety, less interest and motivation for things that normally interest me and excess mucus. Many of the raw fooders I've coached have had similar experiences when overdoing fat and often if they happen to be recovering from a chronic illness, the symptoms of that illness will re-appear as well. I was also 'hypoglycemic' when I went raw and had to eat lots of fat for 3 years before I felt I could wean myself off it. Each person is different in that regard but it is pretty common for raw fooders to need months or even years before they can sustain a low fat raw diet. When a person is ready, however, it can lead to major improvements in health. Best wishes, Nora www.RawSchool.com
