Guest guest
Another thing that leaches the body’s calcium: tap water (due to chlorine). Erinn, One of the biggest steps is getting off animal products to reduce acidity, which leaches the body's calcium. Other things that acidify: caffeine, alcohol, and aspirin. Here is a chart of foods and their calcium content that I created: HYPERLINK " http://www.soystache.com/calcium.htm " http://www.soystach-e.com/calcium.-htm I clearly distinguish between animal-based and plant-based foods. Note where the first cow's milk is on the list (the " food " that is supposed to be good for the bones.) Guest guest
The problem with calcium is leaching, not dietary deficiency, as Jeff points out. All dietary issues are best addressed by improving one's diet, not by propping oneself up on supplements. These only train the body NOT to do for itself what it is designed to do for itself ... and worse. Best, Elchanan _____ On Behalf Of Helen Levashoff Monday, October 15, 2007 1:00 PM Re: Calcium? Guest guest
Jeff, Thanks for the chart of foods and their calcium content: > Here is a chart of foods and their calcium content that I created: > http://www.soystache.com/calcium.htm I'm glad to see that sesame seeds are on the top of the chart. I get a large portion of my calcium from making delicious almond and pistachio " milk " . Here's the recipe: Put the following in a blender and blend at highest setting. 1/4 cup soaked raw almonds or (not soaked) raw pistachios 13 or so medium sized medjool dates 1-2 tablespoons of sesame seeds (ground) 5 cups water If you used almonds you'll probably want to use a nut bag to strain out the solid matter (which you can save for making raw cookies later). When I use pistachois I just drink it without straining. Josh

Elchanan, If I'm correct in understanding what you said here, you seem to indicate that taking supplements over time actually prevents the body from absorbing nutrients from food. It's an interesting idea, but do you have any evidence to support this? Josh
