Guest guest
Ok, I bought a persimmon. Beautiful reddish orange color, squishy, tastes like custard. After a few bites I noticed this extremely dry feeling all over in my mouth. Rinsing w/water didn't dissipate it. Its not an entirely enjoyable sensation. I have read on this site about people who eat huge amnts. Is there some food that would counter this effect? Did it kinda make the " hairs " on your tongue stand on end? It sounds like the persimmon was ripe, so try not eating the skin (if that is what you did). Unripe persimmon or the skin could cause that sensation. Jeff
Guest guest
Yes, when you (original author) say " squishy " , how squishy do you mean? REALLY squishy is ripe for a Hachiya persimmon. And as Jeff suggests, look to the skin first, just try discarding that. Elchanan _____ On Behalf Of Jeff Rogers Tuesday, January 01, 2008 4:24 PM Re: persimmon taste??? Guest guest
Translucence is really the quality you're after w/ persimmons. A persimmon can be squishy and still be unripe. Some persimmons just never ripen, I haven't quite figured out why. If you bite into it and it looks creamy & opaque like orange sherbet, you can expect the starchy mouth-covering. If it's clear and jelly-like, you won't. If you do eat one that is not completely ripe, just eat nothing for a few minutes and the starch will roll off your tongue in little balls. It also helps to brush your teeth if you can. Nora ------------------------- Ok, I bought a persimmon. Beautiful reddish orange color, squishy, tastes like custard.
