Guest guest
While traveling, I want to carry some dehydrated vegetables with a higher than average vitamin K content so that I can balance an often deficient travel diet with foods that I usually eat to balance the amount of vitamin K in my system. (I'm taking a blood thinner that requires a blood-level of vitamin K that's in a very narrow range.) So, I'm looking for a good dehydrator that I can use for vegetables such as brocolli and cauliflower as well as fruits (later on). Can you recommend a good dehydrator? (I want to get one by this coming weekend: 3/8,3/9.) Roger
Guest guest
Roger, If it’s none of my business, just ignore this, but why are you taking the blood thinner? Maybe some of the people here can offer suggestions on a non-drug approach to the problem. When I was shopping for a dehydrator years ago, I was told Excalibur was the best, so that’s what I got. But it just sits in my garage now. It was super loud, for one thing. Also, I would seldom let the food dehydrate for 6 hours or whatever the recipe called for. I would get hungry and eat it before it got close to being dehydrated. I also wondered how much I was paying in electricity to dehydrate it and end up with food that was less nutritious than it was to begin with. Guest guest
Roger, I would recommend the Excalibur. From it's website, their best one: " The dehydrator will turn itself off at the end of the designated drying period. With Excalibur's built in safety features and the 26-hour timer, it can be left unattended while you're away or are sleeping. One aspect, not previously mentioned, is Excalibur's solid dark door. Some vitamins are light sensitive and are destroyed when exposed to light. Excalibur's opaque door and light blocking cabinet are designed to minimize light sensitive vitamin loss. Many 'typical' round dehydrators have transparent trays and covers, affording maximum light penetration to the food being dried. " Most raw food chefs that I know of use this dehydrator. Another reason that they use it is because the fan and way it was manufactured keeps the temperature pretty constant. (many dehydrators, specifically ones designed for meat jerky, have a very varied temperature...the temperature you set it at is the average and the temperature inside the dehydrator goes up and down from my understanding, which results in food being " cooked " for periods of time.) more info: http://www.excaliburdehydrator.com/vegetarian.htm I actually bought the white 9-tray large excalibur with the 26 hour timer about 6 months ago (with everything included, even unused Paraflexx sheets). I only used it once since I decided to only eat whole foods (in their naturally state, unprocessed in any way). I intended on posting to sell it after my finals (I'm a student and finish school next Thursday evening) but if you need one prior to that, contact me off list and we can talk. Guest guest
Hi there! I really like my Excaliber. It seems to be the dehydrator of choice for raw fooders. Blessings! Guest guest
Well, you won't find them in stores but Excalibur makes the best dehydrator. You can call them direct and order from them. 916-381-4254. Sometimes they have " seconds " available and you can get one for $$ off because it has a scratch on the casing or something minor.''
