Guest guest
Kevin, From the FAQ page of HYPERLINK " http://www.foodnsport.com/ " www.foodnsport.com (Doug Graham’s website: The diet we recommend is called the " low-fat raw vegan diet. " Although the diet is not new, the term for it was coined by sports nutritionist and chiropractor Douglas Graham over twenty years ago. This diet has been used successfully by many amateur and professional athletes as well as many non-athletes to achieve top performance and health. Dr. Graham also refers to this diet as " The 80/10/10 Diet " or " The 811 Diet. " The numbers refer to the percentage of calories that are ideally obtained daily from the three food elements: carbohydrates, protein, and fat. Put another way, 80% of your calories will come from simple carbohydrates, 10% from protein, and 10% from fat. So in a 2000 calorie per day diet, 1600 calories will come from carbohydrates, 200 from protein, and 200 from fat. This works out naturally if 90 - 95% of your calories come from sweet fruit, 2-6% from leafy greens, vegetables and non-sweet fruits, and 0 - 8% from nuts and seeds. This is generally accomplished with two or three large fruit meals during the day with a large salad in the evening. _____ On Behalf Of Kevin Thurber Saturday, May 03, 2008 9:15 PM 80/10/10 Would someone explain, without me having to pay, exactly what this diet combinaiton is? " More accurately stated, the Macronutrient ratios are desired to be a MINIMUM of 80% of calories from carbohydrates, and a MAXIMUM of 10% from protein and a MAXIMUM of 10% from fat. If you add foods that are whole, fresh, ripe, raw, organic or better, fruits and shoots, you'll be well on your way from a dietary perspective. Guest guest
From Dr. D's website.................... " Essentially, The 80/10/10 Diet outlines a plan that derives a minimum of eighty percent of its calories from carbohydrates. All the best science points to this key dietary concept, yet no approach has taken the low-fat vegan plan to its rightful heights, because they all rely upon the consumption of cooked, complex carbohydrates as their primary calorie source. Starches and grains are bland foods, so inevitably we end up compromising their potential health value by amending them with fat, refined or chemical sweeteners, and salt. Dr. Graham bypasses the entire problem by using the simple carbohydrates in fruits as the main staple of his program. " Shari
