Guest guest
Hello, I am doing pretty well at eating raw about 70% and want exceed this percentage to move into optimum health. I am asking if there is anyone here who can help me with words of wisdom about sticking to this diet when family criticizes or thinks one is extreme by eating this way. I am having thoughts that can take me off the path of eating raw just to be accepted by my wife and her family. My wife thinks that I am too extreme and gives me crap when I talk about taking bee pollen but she like the gojis I buy for us. I bet she is tripping out on the aloe vera juice I have in the fridge too. Does anyone care to suggest anything to help? I would like some. Thanks, Jason P.S. If there are any people who like to get together and talk about this stuff and other essoteric things of this world give me a shout so I can join in a group setting or just hang out and share great conversations. I live in Edmonds.
Guest guest
Jason, You could go to Dalenes Cafe (in Kirkland) www.dalenes.com , talk to Diane, her husband is not raw and she may have some help/ideas about family. Keep motivated by watching David Wolfe and others on yout tube videos. Just a couple ideas for you. Guest guest
Hey Jason, my name is Adam and what you have written has hit a cord with me. It is a struggle at times. I truely believe that this is something worth your time and energy, because it does come back ten fold spiritually, physically and mentally. I've been mostly raw for over a year. After the initial rush a community/network of like minded people helps. I feel that reaching out is what you need to do. Some type of support is necessary. In a cooked world us believers are definitely the minority. I think you should sit down with your wife/family and let them know how important this is to you. It's a journey of self discovery and for them not to support that shows a serious lack of understanding and/or compassion on their part. Maybe you just need to have a heart to heart with them. To 99% of the population this lifestyle is extreme. Our society is not set up for our lifestyles. So, it basically falls on all of our shoulders to start the rawvolution. Believe that anything can be done. Guest guest
I've found through the years regarding eating healthy, even before I discovered raw, that I have to be sensitive about how I share the information with other people. People tend to feel guilty if they just see a person eating more healthy than they do even if you don't say a word to them. I think that deep down they know that the way they're eating is bad for them but the SAD diet is very addictive, as most of us know. It's like a drug for me. I think we need to be careful to not have a " healthier than thou " attitude when we talk about the raw lifestyle. It should never be an us against them kind of thing. I'm in customer service in a call center and know that kind words can diffuse a stand off and open the lines of communication and even turn the whole call around. Everyone wants to feel important and not made to feel defensive about what they believe or who they are. We can only express to others how important the raw lifestyle is to us and be careful not to hit them over the head with it. People do watch us and they will ask questions. A couple of young gals where I work have asked me lots of questions as they observe my food and one is actually trying raw for 30 days and seems very excited about it. As with most things in life, our actions speak louder than our words and we need to be a positive (and loving) example of what we believe and people with be drawn in rather than repelled (for lack of a better word). I know how easy it is for us to become overly zealous because of our excitement but we don't want to blow people out of the water. Being raw is simple but not easy so we need to draw people in very gently sometimes. Just my thoughts but I hope this is helpful. Joan :-)
Guest guest
Jaosn, Just keep incorporating more fruit and veggies into your diet (far more important than “raw” foods that come dehydrated or in bottles) and don’t try to convert anybody else. Keep your diet as simple as possible. Low fat raw vegan is best, IMO. If you can find a nice healthy dish that others like it would be nice to prepare that for them every so often. If people ask why you are eating raw you could have a short answer ready, but don’t go into detail unless they seem to be genuinely interested. People will accept you or not, and if you change to suit them you will not be true to yourself. Don’t act defensive if they criticize you. Just say you’re doing it as an experiment. Maybe in your mind it is a lifelong experiment, but you don’t have to tell anyone that. I live in Lake Forest Park and I’d be happy to get together. Sometimes I meet people at Third Place Books.
