Good info, Mark. Good to know how the Trader Joe's bananas come out

per pound--I was going to weigh them once and I forgot.

Just to clarify, I have gotten case discounts at PCC. Sometimes it's a

good deal and sometimes it's not much off. I'm not sure about Whole

Foods. One time I asked them for a discount on a sale item and they

said they couldn't since it was on sale, but I didn't ask if they do

case discounts on regularly-priced items.

Also, I agree about discussions--I would like it if this group were

more active. I'm sure there are people of all levels and backgrounds

here and it would be fun to have a local group to chat with more.

Usually, the most active discussions are started with questions. Often

that happens when people new to raw ask questions, so keep asking

questions!

I'm assuming tofu and any pickled item would be considered processed. Is that

correct?

I've discovered my co-op and the Mt. Vernon co-op will not give you a case

discount if you just walk in and ask for one. They will honor a discount if you

call a day or two ahead of time and ask for a case.

You're correct about the tofu. Some people make raw pickles. I would

not eat most store-bought pickles. I haven't actually seen any raw

ones marketed in stores. I've only seen them at events and, perhaps,

raw restaurants. There are many varieties of raw sauerkrauts and

kimchees on the market.

Everyone,

Thank you for all of your responses. I've written them all down and am excited

to start. I will post any additional questions I have, on this forum, probably

soon! :)

Whole Foods won't give out a case discount, but the PCC on Avondale Rd. will.

But, it is still a much better deal to buy organic bananas from TJ's. PCC's

discount only brought the bananas down to .99/lb!
