Well we certainly know Michael Phelps is not. He's already signed on and filmed

ads for McDeath with little Chinese kids. And Kellogg's has nabbed him as well

to sell sugardeath cereal to kids.

You might want to contact: (that's how I found out about Phelps)

I just pinged Ani Phyo from Smart Monkey Foods on her myspace page.  I thought

that she worked with athletes at an Olympic or Nike training center in Oregon at

one point.  I'll let you know what she says.

Raw food on an Olympic scale?

Good morning,

I was just wondering if anyone knows whether any of the Olympic athletes are

raw, or how to find out.

I couldn't find anything about raw foodists, but did find a couple

of things about vegan olympic participants.

http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/08/08/answers-about-the-vegan-

lifestyle-in-new-york-part-3/

" It is a fallacy to say that a vegan diet makes a person puny or

weak. The strongest animals in world — the rhinoceros, the gorilla,

the hippopotamus, the camel, the horse — are vegans. Moreover, the

top athletes whose performances are unparalleled — such as Carl

Lewis, who holds the record for gold medals in Olympic track and

field events; or Dave Scott; or Ruth Heidrich, who recovered from

breast cancer with a radical vegan diet; or Kenneth Williams, who

has garnered prizes for body building — all competed and excelled as

vegans. " --James D. Merriman IV

And http://www.straight.com/article-156506/medalhungry-olympic-women-

eat-compete

For Kara Lang, a 21-year-old forward on the Canadian soccer team and

a vegan for five years, the components of her diet are essential to

her preparation, and are sometimes hard to come by. Luckily her

roommate, midfielder Amy Walsh, shares her preferences.

" We'll both bring our Vega protein powder [for protein shakes] and

our organic peanut butter from home, and protein bars and trail mix

and nuts and stuff like that, " Lang said by cellphone after a

morning training session in North Vancouver. " In the past on trips

to China, it has been a bit hard to get things. "

By the way, what I found out is McDonald's and Coca Cola was the

major official sponsors and was about the only food and drink you

could get at the venues.
