Guest guest
Good morning, Since becoming raw my blood circulation has improved so much that my feet stay warm year-round without socks or shoes - even in our (moderately) cold weather, even when I'm biking. The problem I do have in cold weather is that my feet get rough and chapped. This has cost me more than a few bedtime snuggles. Can anyone recommend a food that might help moisturize my skin? I prefer not to use any processed topical treatment (I've tried Burt's Bees coconut lotion and it didn't work well enough), but would consider a topical pure plant product. Our temps are pretty much similar to Seattle's even though we're in a lower lattitude. Thank you, Nick Hein Morgantown, WV
Guest guest
Nick, I don't know how well it will work, but consider trying avocado. Take some soft avocado and rub it in well. Then rinse your feet and pat dry. The oils should remain. I've done similar with my hands on rare occasions (I'll actually rub the inside of the skin on my hands after scooping out the flesh). This is still symptom relief. If Nora (or others) is reading, maybe she has suggestions. I've found that, recently, my hands have dried and chapped a little, even though my habits have not changed. I still use gloves for washing dishes and cleaning, etc. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that our ancestors came from warmer climates! Guest guest
NIck When were you applying the coconut lotion? I like using coconut butter/oil on my skin. I use it after bathing to help keep moisture in. I also use it at bedtime. I find that this gives me the best results for dry skin especially in the winter here in the Nothwest. My absolute favorite oil is " How Now Brown Cacao " from Simply Divine Botanicals, it has cacao in it and everything is better with cacao. -- Love and Light In-Joy Ramona -------------- Original message ---------------------- " Nick Hein " <nick.hein > Good morning, > Since becoming raw my blood circulation has improved so much that my feet stay > warm year-round without socks or shoes - even in our (moderately) cold weather, > even when I'm biking. Guest guest
Nick, Interestingly, I always note my skin is much drier when I overconsume nuts and other fats (and by overconsume, I mean more than 6-8 ounces per week), so I certainly wouldn't recommend eating fatty foods on the (erroneous, imo) theory that doing so makes the skin moist and soft. I knew another long term raw fooder with very dry and scaly heels who used shea butter topically. I don't know if it worked. You could put some on and then wear socks to bed, like some women who put on moisturizer and wear gloves to bed. Good luck! Nora
Guest guest
Hey Nick, I use " Hand and Foot Repair " by salmon creek botanicals " works like a charm. You could make your own to make sure the ingredients are organic. list of ingredients: olive oil (infused with below) calendula shea butter beeswax french lavender oil tea tree oil peppermint and rosemary extracts (or oil ) vitamin E (as preservative) Apply after shower or soaking feet when the skin is warm and softened. Although you may not agree with some of the ingredients, you can make up your own. The essential oils are for fungus, which a lot of foot crusting is about. Make sure you are drinking enough water. Guest guest
I really like Shea Butter. I last got mine on a soap making as they want it as pure as possible when adding to soaps - Nick Hein Wednesday, October 22, 2008 5:47 AM " ... and I don't like to wear no shoes... Guest guest
Hi Nick Here is a magic " natural " salve in a little 100g tub. Paw Paw Salve make by Simmons & Co. Pty. Ltd. in Australia. I don't know if it is sold here though . I have contacted them and they told me it is all natural and 51% paw paw. I use it everywhere, for skin, cuts, (my daughter used to put it in her hair even ! ! !)
