Guest guest
I bought some raw almonds at PCC (from spain I think they are). They have a bit of a different taste. Some of them taste very good and then some of them taste very bitter. The bitter ones taste kind of like the seed inside a apricot, which I ate years ago thinking I would get some laetril benefit. So that is also another question: should one eat apricot pits? About the alomnds, I just put some of them in water to soak them tonight. But I am wondering if that bitter taste is a bad thing and maybe I should take the rest back. Has anyone else experienced this? Guest guest
The Spanish almonds do have a stronger flavor. Soaking may make them milder. Apricot pits are edible, but considered toxic if one eats too many. When I researched them online a few years ago I only found one site that suggested an amount that was considered toxic. That one site suggested not having more than 9 kernels in a day. I've also been told that amount is not toxic. I've read nothing official. BTW, amaretto flavor comes from apricot pits. In general, if something tastes bad to the body, it's a sign that the body doesn't want it. How do they taste to you after the soaking? Guest guest
Terri, I've tasted those raw almonds from Spain and I don't like the strong bitter flavor. I never bought them again. I'm feeling very raw-almond-deprived! There are so many recipes that require raw almonds. The Cornucopia Institute is suing the USDA but they need donations to continue, as they're a small non-profit. I would encourage anyone who has disposable income to help them with the lawsuit. Guest guest
They are milder after soaking, but still some (not all) of them are bitter. I don't feel bad after eating them though, so it is just a taste thing. > Jeff Rogers <jeff > Re: questions raw PCC alnonds from spain > The Spanish almonds do have a stronger flavor.
