Guest guest
Just a reminder, US farmers can still sell unpasteurized almonds directly to consumers, whether at roadside markets or phone/internet sales. As Judy mentioned, the USDA permits (how nice of them!) pasteurized almonds to be sold as " raw " . I suspect most co-ops and health food stores (like PCC here in Seattle) label them appropriately. PCC and Madison Market carry Spanish almonds, as well as other almonds. Some restaurants like Chaco Canyon chose to stop using almonds rather than import European almonds and charge more. Wherever you purchase almonds, be sure to ask questions. Jeff > Thanks, Catherine. Guest guest
Here a question ...... PCC has some almonds that are pasteurized in a stream. They are good to me. My argument is that they are not gassed. Just because it is labeled as " pasteurized " is this really a harmful thing? Is it really destroying some nutrients or enzymes? Is it possibly helping along the sprouting process? Anyone got an opinion? I tried the Spanish ones too., yes some are a little bitter and some have that sweet almond fruity taste which I found delicious and exotic. Love to all of you, Jason Jacobs Edmonds, WA
Guest guest
I have got the raw spanish almonds organic from Trader Joes super cheap and none of them taste bitter I wonder if that is b/c they dont sit in a bulk bin? They sprouted awesomely also so they were definatley raw. Peace & Love Kristina
Guest guest
Another problem is that we don't know if raw agave is really raw or is even really agave. I've read some of it is doctored with corn syrup.
