I would also love to try this at some point. I don't have a lot of room

where I'm living but want to investigate options for when that changes.

I've seen commercials for the AeroGarden, the prices range from 80.00 to

210.00 depending on the unit. They even have a three tiered wall unit! I

would really like growing my own greens and tomatoes.

Do you need to grow it indoors. We put up a double plastic over pvc pipes and

though our lettuce is dormant in the winter, that which was large enough when

the cold hit has been keeping very good. Unfortunately I was so late this year

that the only thing that I had large enough to use was the Swiss chard, but it

survived even this 2 week freeze we had and I can go out and pick some to eat

today

Sharon,

Did you mean that you do not need to grow it indoors? If so, I actually do,

I live in an apartment and don't have anywhere outside to grow anything.

:-( Although you're idea is a great one to keep in mind when I do have a

yard.

Thank you for the reply.

I wouldn't bother with an aero garden, it's really much simpler and cheaper to

do it yourself. I've grown starts indoors for my garden. If you have a

southern facing window or a window that gets sun most of the day you are doing

good. If not you can get a small grow-light(12 " to 18 " ). Pans for growing can

be as simple as old roasting pans aquired at goodwill to seedling tray at the

garden shop. The seedling trays have drainage holes to keep the roots from

getting soggy, but the same thing can be done by punching holes in the old pan

if it is metal. Being as you have no access to soil I would recommend some

potting soil from the store. Peat pots are good for seedlings you plan to

transplant into a garden but not really for an indoor garden. All you need to do

is find a space for them and let them grow. My mother did starts at the end of

her countertop in the kitchen with the grow light fastened on the underside of

the upper cupboard. My critique of the aero garden is that is expensive and

really doesn't grow that much. It is also plastic and I doubt it will hold up

more than a season or two. It also looks difficult to clean out for the next

crop. If you grow your own sprouts you probably could keep them together in the

same area. Good luck and have fun with it.

Sharon,

Yes, I have a garden space. Double plastic over PVC pipes? Sort of like a

little greenhouse?

Thanks.

The only issue I have with Aero is that the units are not organic, right? I

called when they first came out and was told I had to use their fertilizer and

their seeds. Has that changed?

We bought the Master gardener kit & use our own seeds & you can use

whatever

fertilizer you want, at least that's what he does.

I doubt Gary would have asked, he always just does what he wants! ;-)

He's had them for more than 2 years now.

The tomato kit is one of theirs, we have not tried that one.

Right - for those who have a bit of room outside. If you are in an apartment,

that won't work
