Guest guest
I live up by the Canadian border and don't know any raw foodists in person to ask. I'm severely allergic to sunflower in any form and I'm sensitive to several tree nuts. I see a lot of recipes that are very nut intensive and wonder about substitutions to the ones I am sensitive to. I can eat almonds, hazelnuts, cashews and peanuts. I can't eat walnuts, pecans, pistachio or macadamia. A second question is about type II(non-insulin dependant) diabetes. Has anyone been there and what kind of foods and proportions did you eat while still keeping blood sugar control. I fully recognize that losing weight will take care of most if not all my blood sugar problems. I had an endocrinologist tell me I stood a good chance of putting the diabetes into remission if I lost enough weight and exercised. I'm just getting started into this and have done some reading and I am working on incorporating more fruits, vegies and sprouts into my diet. My husband is less than impressed by my 'rabbit food'. I'm just tired of feeling tired all the time. Thanks in advance for your replies, Laurie
Guest guest
Hi Laurie, There is an excellent DVD about people who healed themselves of Type 2 diabetes (and one who even healed himself of type 1) by eating a raw vegan diet. Guest guest
Hi Laurie, I do not recommend the dvd by Dr. Cousens, Simply Raw. It is not complete, helpful information. (In fact, I personally did not find it very interesting to watch.) Dr. Cousens book The Diabetes Cure is a much more comprehensive and informative book. Both are priced at $30.00 so choose wisely. Also, Dr. Cousens has online seminars about curing diabetes, but I have personally not attended one so cannot say how helpful they are. You can find out more at his website Tree of Life Rejuvenation Center. Please keep us informed if you use his program. I would love to know how well you do on it and if you like it. Best of luck! Peace on earth. Guest guest
People have different styles of learning, different preferences for how they get information and inspiration. If Laurie is looking to see actual video footage of people going through the experience in a very candid and honest way, then she will be inspired by this video. I'm sure the book has great information as well, as Gabriel Cousens, M.D. goes into incredible detail in all of his very long, dense, scholarly, academic-style books. Guest guest
The Tree of Life " way " is loaded with fats though Laurie, Doug Graham's 80/10/10 is another approach ! There is much to be found on the internet ! (are you our same Laurie who's been " around a while " ?) As for the nuts, if you REALLY want to use them then just substitute those you're ok with for those you're not ! ! We don't actually NEED that many though. . . I rarely eat nuts and seeds and have been that way all my life. Best wishes, Toni On Sat, Jan 3, 2009 at 12:23 AM, Judy Pokras <vegwriter wrote: > People have different styles of learning, different preferences for how > they > get information and inspiration. > If Laurie is looking to see actual video footage of people going through > the > experience in a very candid and honest way, then she will be inspired by > this video. Guest guest
Hi Toni, If you're thinking of me, I'm the Laurie that's been on Nora's group for about 4 yrs., I was on PoH for awhile, and this group for quite awhile. You and I have also had a couple private emails. The Laurie asking about nuts, and diabetes is another Laurie!
