Guest guest
I don't think the attachment came through although I would certainly be interested. I get email from a Alzheimer group that is promoting research as they say the number of people getting the disease is increasing rapidly. Does anyone know if a study has been done to find how many vegans develop the disease. I doubt there are enough raw food people to do a study yet, but there might be vegans. Guest guest
Hi Sharon, This is one of those interesting questions. We (this community) believe that raw food better supports the body's ability to cleanse and regenerate itself than cooked food does. There are existing studies that clearly indicate that a higher level of physical and mental activity reduces and delays loss of functionally from aging and disease related to aging. I'm guessing that vegans are less likely to spend their life immobilized and hypnotized by the television than the average population, and are more mentally and physically active than the average population. So unless the study was better designed than most, if vegans as a group did better, I'd still wonder if vegans had less Alzheimer symptoms, or a slower progression of the disease, because of their diet or because of their more alive and active lifestyle. I'm guessing that its the combination of both of these, the diet and the activity, that makes the biggest difference in quality of health. It seems that since we live in an increasing soup of toxins and stress, that even more than avoiding exposure to disease or toxins, the issue is if your lifestyle supports your body enough that it can cleanse and regenerate faster on all levels than its damaged by the environment it lives in. By all levels I mean being able to repair damage within cells, replace lost cells, create new links between existing nerve cells, and heal systemic issues such as the immune system or digestive system being out of kilter. Its kind of like a biological endurance race in a harsh environment, and the bodies with the most vitality, and the most nurturing to rebuild and sustain that vitality, will last the longest. Likely from the perspective of our soul or spirit or whatever it is that makes us alive, rather than just a pile of organic chemicals and water, that aging or a degenerative disease with genetic factors, is just one more challenge to deal with along with the pollution the body breathes each day. It would be really interesting if a study was done that isolated the factors of diet, mental activity, and physical activity to get some idea of how much difference each factor made, and if there was a multiplying effect of one or more combined factors. May your day be filled with clarity, grace, strength, progress, and warm laughter, Roger - " sharon " <smassena Friday, March 27, 2009 7:39 AM Re: 3/29/2009 is my " stroke-day!
