Guest guest
I was wondering if any of you have purchased a Vita-Mix in the last couple years, and what you thought of the quality and reliability of the blender, and service in dealing with issues related to the blender. I realize that many of you have bought a Vita-Mix in the past, but one purchased 5 years ago isn't what they are selling today, and I need to know about the ones they are selling now. If you have had recent experience dealing with service issues, that would be helpful for me to know about. I can't get my beloved Braun Jug Blender anymore, and so I need to get another blender before this one wears out. Even though the Braun wore out faster than the Vita-Mix, it cost so much less that I figured its 10 year cost was still less than the Vita-Mix. Its 10 year cost wasn't a whole lot less, so the Vita-Mix won't cost a whole lot more in the long run - if it works well for me I've tried many of the higher ranked blenders in the Consumer Reports review, and was dissatisfied with them. The ones I haven't tried don't seem to suit me, or their customer reviews were pretty bad on reliability issues, meaning many blenders tend to stop working after a few months if you use them regularly. So I decided to take another look at the Vita-Mix since it has changed so much since the one I bought 15 years ago and then got rid of. They seem to have made some significant improvements in the last few years. In addition the 32 oz jug is big enough for my use, and just short enough to work okay in my kitchen. The height of the 32 oz container wasn't on their web site so I had to email them, and this is what they said: The total height using the 32 oz. container is 16 inches. There isn't any way to get the motor unit and just the 32 oz container (you have to buy both the 64 oz and 32 oz containers), so this will be a major purchase for me, and so I decided to ask about recently manufactured Vita-Mix blenders and the company before making this purchase. Guest guest
Hi Roger I've had several vita-mix blenders and have loved them all . I passed them on to friends and family and last year I bought a 5200. I love it. Ive never had any problems with any of them and they all blend like a dream and last forever. Go for it! Ask them if they have any re-conditioned ones (usually blenders that were used as demos) available. I saved at least $100 doing that and they still have the full warranty. Guest guest
While I don't have the new 5200, I have a couple 5000's. Regarding service: A couple days ago I called in as my first 5000 shorted out. It's under warranty, so they're sending out a return label to send the blender and container back for service. I had purchased it in 2003. Jeff
Guest guest
I've been using Blend Tec's Total blender and have been very happy with it, except that the jar started leaking, so they're sending me a replacement. They say the seal wears out. Does the Vitamix jar eventually leak too? If not, I wonder why Blend Tec can't make a leakproof one. They came out with a new one this year that's made without those harmful chemicals found in many plastics. Guest guest
I've heard that the Blend Tec's are prone to breaking/cracking, but have never used them myself. I haven't had any leakage problems with my Vita-Mix's. One exception is when I purchased a filthy used one from an expresso stand, which leaked horribly. I purchased it cheap ($50?) and ordered a new blade assembly, cleaned the thing up, and sent it to a friend. I found out last week that that machine (a 5000) was made in 1998. I suspect all the coffee oils etc. had affected the seals, etc. Jeff On Jul 26, 2009, at 2:28 PM, Judy Pokras wrote: > I've been using Blend Tec's Total blender and have been very happy > with it, > except that the jar started leaking, so they're sending me a > replacement. > They say the seal wears out. Guest guest
Blend Tec tells customers not to let any liquid sit in the blender jar, and not to drain it upside down after washing it. I wonder what's different about the Vitamix's seal. Guest guest
Hi Roger, I got the 5000 about 2-1/2 yrs. ago and it's great. It's very powerful and reliable. I often use it multiple times per day. Haven't had any service issues. I got it at Costco, with the 64 oz. container only (Costco brings it in every so often on a special event). Are you sure you can't get the containers separately anywhere? I like the big container because it needs to be that big for me to fit everything (incl. lettuce, which takes up a lot of room) in to end up with about a 32 oz. smoothie. My only very minor complaint is that it doesn't completely blend raspberry/blackberry seeds, so if I use those in smoothies, they sometimes get stuck in my teeth. BUT, I read that the newer model (5200) takes care of this. Here is a video by a friend comparing the Vitamix to the Blendtec in case you're interested: http://tinyurl.com/ljts5v Laurie
