Guest guest
I meant to post this a few days ago, but had too many distractions. As of 1/1/10, Central Market (Shoreline) has increased their case prices. They used to offer great prices on their produce cases. They marked up their cases by 25%, which was often close to half of the retail price. They want to get away from their case sales, so are marking up their pricing. Instead of 25%, the markup is now 50% above the case price. It's too bad we no longer have the great 25% deal, but the new pricing is still better than a lot of places. I just wanted to give everyone the heads-up, so there are no surprises! Jeff
Guest guest
Yes , I was at the Central market last week for coconuts and they wanted $16.50 for case. They said they were not in the wholesale buisness. Not like the good ole days. I opted to buy them at uajimaya for $1.99 a piece. Previously I bought a case at Ranch market on sale for $7.99, but they were VERY old and Very moldy, took em back. Guest guest
Hi Jeff, Sorry to hear that about Central Market. I have been buying a lot of bananas and mangos by the case from them. An alternative to consider, at least for bananas, is Trader Joe's. They sell organic bananas for 29 cents each. (Naturally you want to pick the biggest bananas you can find.) I have weighed them after getting home a few times and found that I was paying around 65-70 cents a pound, a little less than what I was paying for a case price at Central. Guest guest
The one thing that Central has, regarding the young coconuts, is consistency. They keep them refrigerated, so they are usually very fresh. (just more costly) So, whether one goes to Ranch Market, Lam's Seafood Market, or another Asian market, I suggest asking for a cold case. The cases out on the floor may have been out for several days or more, compromising their freshness.
