Guest guest
I am looking at needing to freeze what fruits and vegetable I can to use for smoothies. Could someone help me understand what vegetables and fruits freeze well, or what special preps I need to do to help them freeze.... as well as what fruits/vegetables do not freeze well? Thanks, Susan
Guest guest
Hi Susan, By no means am I an expert, but...... All berries , cherries freeze well as is. Bananas freeze well also, some people freeze them whole with skin other cut them and freeze. Perssimions , I cut them in quarters and freeze (per Nora) I imagine pineapple would do fine, you might take a look in the freezer at PCC or WF and look to see whats available. The package may tell you weather they are blanched or something before ? I have a feeling Apples, pears may not do so well if not cooked ? but then they are usually vailable all year fresh/stored. Papaya and mango would seemingly do well like perssimon (spell?). As far as veggies, I just use fresh. I would think most frozen packaged veg. are cooked a bit first, anyone ? Guest guest
I made a fruit salad for our Christmas gathering. There was a fair amount left over and we were leaving in the morning. Not knowing what to do with it, I put it in the freezer along with the left over Romaine. It made great smoothies when we returned. The fruits were Apple, oranges, bananas, pineapple and there were walnuts in the salad as well.
