Guest guest
Last night, in celebration of Earth Day, I attended an environmental film festival sponsored by the Seirra Club that was hosted by the Siskiyou Project (a local environmental activist group). It was wonderful. They had several information tables set up with flyers and even offered cookies, coffee and chocolate covered strawberries. At the start of the evening, an elderly Native American lady spoke and gave a few words of encouragement. She was marvelous; so sincere and had traveled five hours from her tribal home to attend this small gathering. We watched five small documentary-style films about various regions currently under threat of needless destruction in the name of modern progress due to irresponsible development planning. One of the things that became more obvious to me during several of the films was the environmental toll taken on our planet due to cattle ranching. Vegetarianism wasn't spoken about at all, but I thought a table with information about that might be nice for the next annual Earth Day event. I may just have to plan on manning that table. *lol* Anyway, I hope you all had a pleasant Earth Day, too. ~ PT ~

Guest guest
You know, the more I think about it, I wonder how many there might have been vegetarians and I just didn't know it. I mean, I don't look like a vegetarian (asif we all have a certain " look " -lol) or wear a sign that tells people I am one either. *lol* Next time I am at a gathering of that nature, I will try not to be so shy and ask some questions and feel it out. I am quite certain that most Native Americans are not vegetarians; at least the ones in my region, since game hunting and salmon fishing is a still a big part of their cultural pratice. I don't have any problems with that, either, and think that if a person is going to eat meat, that is probably the most ideal way to go about it for the sake of the environment. But the thing that I think takes the most damaging toll on our environment is cattle ranching, which I feel is way over done and with little regard for the long-term effects on the eco-system. ~ PT ~ ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~~~~~~~> , Lisa Green <moonbug@u...> wrote: > As Will Cuppy put it so eloquently: " A meat eating environmentalist is as > much an oxymoron as an animal loving duck shooter " > > Regards to the fish, > LisA
